No US segments. CTA Canada doesn't seem to be much use, as someone on FT points out there's a clause somewhere that airlines CAN cancel tickets due to technical errors.

The only good thing is, the original travel date is that far out, so I'm not out of pocket getting visas, hotels, etc.

If no DOT protection, and no CTA, your avenue is the regular legal system (small claims). But that might be more trouble than its worth? You could sit tight and hold it out. If they reinstate then book for next year.

I don't know if there is much value in calling for these fares. let the folks based in the US do the work. plenty of people have them and all fighting to get them reinstated however they can. if they are reinstated then everyone will benefit.

my SQ issued ticket rgn-kul-sin-zrh-yul with MH/MH/SQ/LX is still completely intact as far as I can see. SQ have internally advised staff they are not going to cancel these tickets but they have mentioned that MH may deny boarding on their own sectors thereby cancelling subsequent sectors. I'm waiting for some more reports from the field about tickets like mine before I book my ticket to Yangon.

That's good to know about the SQ decision. I have several tickets from round one ticketed by SQ so this bodes well.

Interesting, though, that MH may deny boarding on someone else's ticket. My limited understanding is that the ticketing carrier collects the fare for the whole itinerary, then divvies it up among the operating carriers. I would have thought this meant that by the time the first sector is flown (assuming it's more than a few weeks away), the operating carrier has already received their cut of the pie.

For anyone with tickets who is not following the thread on FT, latest round of cancellations seems to be disappearing LHR-YUL flights that are IB marketed/BA operated, and travelocity downgrading remaining sectors to economy. With no proactive communication from anyone. If ticket has anything to do with IB or travelocity, it is worth checking your booking. Mine has gone down this path. :(

I have the same. I just wish they'd cancel the whole itinerary, give out refunds and be done with it.

I have just checked travelocity to find that the first three legs have been dropped to Y (Oh Why?!?). I can't see the last leg (LHR-YUL) however I expect the same for that too.

Now do I bother going from RGN-KUL-SIN-LHR-YUL in Y for $500? I have booked MEL-SIN (refundable) and will still need SIN-RGN and to get home from YUL, although I am happy to spend some time in North America (YUPP etc).

*sad face*

I suspect the LHR-YUL is lost and gone forever. So is it worth $500 for RGN-KUL-SIN-LHR, when you can pay the same amount for flying MH in Y SIN-KUL-LHR without having the hassle of getting to RGN? I might take the SIN-LHR I have booked for that price on SQ if I don't have to take RGN-KUL-SIN first ...

Mine has gone a similar path, however I have had 0 communication from the OTA - not even anything to suggest there is a cancellations. Still shows okay in Amadeus and the other sectors are sticking. My 1 MH and 2 CX sectors are still good, I also have a domestic US flight in mine (I had something a little more complicated than most) so was/am hoping for DOT protection of sorts.

Given RGN isn't crazily out the way for us (e.g. 3K from SIN) compared to US/EU based FTers I still think it's worth the effort - I actually would like to visit there. I'd just have some alternate arrangements such as a JASA from SIN ready in case it falls apart. Let's pretend somehow the remainder of the itinerary holds, I'd still take what I have to LHR (assuming the J/F sticks as it still displays for me).

What's going to make it tougher to manage is MH changing their systems for OW entry, only the mobile site still displays older bookings I believe?

Is anyone prepared to fly the sectors as booked and if it ends in Y then initiate a credit card charge back for services/goods not received/supplied as booked for? The original confirmation email plus your boarding stubs should be suffice. The OTA/airlines are stuffing people around so let's get your CC lender to bat in for you against the OTA/airlines.

Not a bad thought. It would be after the event, though. I haven't had any communication yet so could plead ignorance. ;)

I would advise caution against travelling --- these 'economy sectors' could be unticketed and you could be denied boarding at RGN. Prob good to have a back up to get out of RGN if whole thing falls flat.

Buy some US DMs, Asiana commences ICN RGN on the 19th Dec twice a week!

Still gotta get to Seoul, but.

I'm using AA miles and I'm investigating whether travel insurance would cover the USD150 cost of reinstating the miles, should their be an issue. Of great concern, though, are some reports on Flyertalk of some cancellations occurring very, very close to departure, like with 48 hours. People have already positioned.

For most in the AFF world, RGN is fairly close, and both Air Asia and Jetstar fly o KUL and SIN respectively. The most expensive 3K fare to SIN is $270USD. From SIN/KUL, it is relatively inexpensive to return to Australia ( unless travelling around christmas/school holidays). This is probably less of an issue than for those who've trekked from east coast of the US.

worst thing is you have to buy a last minute fare on Air Asia or something to Kuala Lumpur, it really isn't a huge deal. Frustrating, but it's just not that difficult to get out of Burma.
