The outbound is not until just before Christmas.

Are you saying that a lot of people have travelled on SQ successfully?

I haven't read anyone saying they haven't been honouring either, just that planes out of RGN are full of people on mistake fares ;)

You should be fine - I'm just reserved about this recent round particularly for those in SQ F because we know how they treat that inventory.

Is it necessary to make the RGN connection? My routing takes me RGN-KUL-SIN (MH) before picking up SIN-LHR (SQ) the next day. Could I just start from SIN-LHR? I know - this takes the fun out of multiple connections.

Well done to all those that have got in. I've given it a miss (assuming it's no longer..?) this time round.

I am points rich but not cash rich at the moment!

That will absolutely cancel the rest of the ticket, so RGN you must visit :) I think QF domestic is one of the few instances where you can just miss sectors.

It seems US/EU based people are positioning on *A awards. I think I'd just pick a JASA/FASA to SIN then 3K it to RGN. If MH are in OW by then I'll go via KUL instead. I could go *A there but have a mountain of QF points to try to burn through.

The overwhelming consensus is that missing the first sector will void the entire itinerary.

Fight the DOT over what? The case is pretty clear cut. The airline cannot increase the price, even on a mistake fare. If they cancel the ticket they are subject to penalties.

Yes but SQ strikes me as just the kind of airline that will pay the fines to send a message to travellers.

Could bring myself to fly AirAsia :) 3K is okay if you pay for front row. They kick freeloaders out of it and try to upsell onboard (30 SGD) so often you're left to yourself.

That's the vibe I get, SQ - particularly if it's on their paper/they're paying for it, would look rather down on pax with this fare. Just look at what happened with that Rex complaint letter a while back.

I've bought a JASA to BKK, and will grab an airasia flight from there - they will go to RGN as well as Mandalay (MDL) from October.

Another option to consider! Just remember that airasia flights leave from Don Mueang rather than Suvarnabhumi from October.

For the extra $5 I would take the 3K option with lounge access and no connection.

Probably no lounge though given the morning departure, sigh. Hopefully post EK the timings all change and they ending up their one lounge open earlier.

I don't think many airlines would be happy about this fare, whether it is SQ or anyone! Vibes are nice but we will wait and see the facts. SQ have stated publicly previously they honour mistake fares, now they may very well not honour a mistake of this magnitude but we have no real precedent for SQ cancelling tickets like this. The CMB 'turnaround' situation is not the same and I will be flying ex-RGN after staying there at least overnight. (if i fly at all!)

I must say I do enjoy the fact that I may get to see Rangoon and Montreal though, both places I haven't had on my radar for upcoming visits but both seem very interesting!

Agreed on all counts, I do plan to stay in RGN a couple nights too and picked long transits where possible. Certainly not seeing this as a milage run as some others put it.

Just some advice here, if you're booking JASA AUS-ASIA often the U inventory falls under the 'business saver' fare rules - which supposedly does incur a cancellation fee. If you're booking for next month that's fair enough (grab whatever you can!) but anyone looking well into next year might want to hold off a few weeks while the dust settles.

Good point ... but my RGN ticket is from round 2, goes through the USA, and is on ANA/Delta ... so I'm pretty confident right now :) The JASA was the only one available in a 3 week period so I snaffled it.

If it falls through, I'm still going to Myanmar!

What message is that, we'll break the law?

It would tell me not to bother. There is some discussion on FT about this specific issue at the moment and one strong line of argument says that if this issue is likely to persist, at least some airlines would prefer to pay the fines to stop people trying in the future.

FWIW, I've now seen one report of an LX ticket with SQ F being cancelled. We can wait and see what happens with more tickets. Ultimately, I'd love them to all be honoured but I'd rather be cautious about the chances than get people's hopes up.

Maybe so but not sure why you have picked SQ as the one to diss. I've been following the discussion on these the RGN fares first here (where it was only Silkair and SQ) then on FT for months now. In both cases people did get SQ legs on their tickets and I have seen plenty of comments about problems but can't remember SQ being amongst those people who have had problems. Personally have experience of a mistake with SQ being honoured, they say they will honour and I've seen no evidence that SQ do anything other than honour in the past. Seems a bit on the nose to me to make suggestions that an airline is not honourably when all the evidence suggests they are, there are plenty who can justifiably get the treatment!

Five of my seven bookings have been charged to my credit card. Of the remaining two, the booking fee for one has been charged to the card but nothing else while the seventh one has had not activity at this stage.

Of the five that have been charged, three touch the US and are therefore protected by the DOT ruling.

I have received ticket numbers for all seven.
