Fewer Suites, but larger and plusher coming....

We have flown both Sq A380s with the new suite configurations from Syd -Sin (9V-SKV), Sin-Hkg (9V-SKU) both in 1A and 2A. When the divider is down, it feels like your own private hotel room. All the photos have been shown already but I am happy to answer any burning Qs others' have. It is wow , wow, wow....

But you haven’t opened the amenity kit yet...trust me, you’ll deduct one or half a wow once you see it. :D
Btw, is the fish always blue or comes in different colour? Just curious, I still don’t know what to do with it.

Yes the kit is underwhelming. Having said that my mum loves the kit (not the contents) and she’s commandeered one for her travels.

The fish is apparently a limited edition...so you could just add it to your aquarium.

My biggest gripe is that the kit takes up a lot of space if you decide to take it with you.

One week to go for me +1... I'm pretty excited! :D

Is it remotely possible to try and dine together if you're travelling with a partner (in either 1A/2A or 1F/2F), by having one person sit on the bed and sharing the large-looking table?

I seem to also remember reading on a comment somewhere as well that there was a stool? But I've not seen any photos of such a thing...

Any other suggestions?

Sadly it is not quite possible to dine together. The position of the table makes it very difficult if you sit on the bed.

I’d read somewhere there was an ottoman that could be brought out to sit on - but didn’t ask for it myself.

It was never offered to us. I doubt that the Ottoman would have been a viable option as it would make it difficult for the crew to provide the food service.

Dining together can't be done comfortably....we didn't bother even though it was offerred

we received the Lalique (Candle) kits on the CDG-SIN but received the "proper" Lalique amenity kits on the SIN-SYD which was an "overnight" flight.
Sorry, I’m confused by your reference of “proper’. Is there a different set of the new Lalique kit for overnight?

I also think they should either train the crew to provide more thorough briefing or have a suite operations manual (like hotel’s) somewhere. I wasn’t told the iPad is locked, my helpful whatsapp Siri :D informed me it’s removable before take off, luckily I didn’t yank it too hard but it’s only a matter of time before someone breaks it. Will provide feedback to SQ.

A little birdie told me that Aeolus nearly broke the iPad ;)

You didn't happen to have 1A on the flight before our first one did you? The tablet was jammed in the holder and the purser had to use a screwdriver as a lever to lift it out for my SO.

We received a different Lalique amenity kit (pink for the ladies and an odd brown satchel type for the men) for our overnight from Singapore. It had a his (or hers) fragrance in place of the candle. I can grab a photo if required though I think it had been mentioned in the various reviews of the announcement in Singapore last year.

No, I only flew recently.
I looked up the pink Lalique kit which is so much better! Why would they even bother with the unisex ones?

Haha...I think a more accurate statement would be "the little birdie almost caused me to break the iPad". :p

Not the best photo with the crumpled bed covers but it shows the double bed with the divider between our seats 1A and 2A down, making a "mini hotel room in the air" :)

I dunno. I haven't flown the new suites but they don't look appealing to me. Something about having a chair in the middle of a room exposed on all sides seems strange. I wouldn't have that at home. Lucky from onemileatatime also has reservations... seat not comfortable, bed not comfortable (although that could be fixed if SQ introduced a mattress topper). But importantly for me, airflow seems a big problem... no nozzles :(

Lucky's report is here: Review: Singapore Airlines New Suites A380 Sydney To Singapore - One Mile at a Time

It seems quite popular. I have twice come close to booking a trip to SFO and of course wanted to do the Syd-sin leg with the new suites. I had to fiddle the dates around in order to find seats for two people. Unfortunately both times my plans changed, so I still haven’t booked it. I have read both reviews - I think it is going to be a personal preference thing and you have to try it to know.

I did a short hop, SIN-HKG last month.
Not impressed - eating BA Club World style facing your 'suite-mate', the rattly chair from which you can't reach anything once swivelled and an ocean of wasted, empty space.
The wifi was, literally, useless too.
I genuinely prefer the old style.

Reading bloggers reports and hearing first hand experiences from friends it seems new suites are great product but not a “game changer” like their old suites were when first introduced.

I guess people had particularly high expectations from SQ to create the perfect product hence some of the critical reviews.
Can only imagine the reactions if QF introduced similar product, how the PR propaganda machine would work overtime to promote it and all the fanboys wetting themselves from excitement :D

Anyway, just few days left until I get to test the new product myself, can’t wait :)

Go for it boomy! We are on the 777 to LAX via NRT in a few days as there is no A380 going on our route.
