Fewer Suites, but larger and plusher coming....

They look great - just hope I get an opportunity to try them!

I have been investigating trying to do the new suites enroute to SFO. Ex Sydney is easy, but the Sin- Hkg bit looks impossible without multiple stopovers or long transits? I think I might need to just do the Syd-Sin bits. The Hkg flight is very short anyway, so probably not worth hassling over. Master FM might decide to meet us in New York rather than San Francisco, so it migh not end up as SQ anyway, which would be sad - looking forward to trying it.

Hi guys, we're excitedly packing in advance of our first R experience on SQ232 this Sunday. Will pyjamas be handed out on this day flight from SYD-SIN? Else we'll be packing our Qantas Jammies (the black unbranded ones of course) as we prefer to change into something comfortable in flight. TIA

Yes, you will get PJs on day flights in F/R.
Enjoy the flight and post lots of photos :)

Just had an amazing experience in the new suites and now chilling in the Private Rooms.

In a nutshell the suites are spacious and feel very isolated. The partition between 1A (SO) and 2A (Me) had been lowered before we boarded. The crew were incredibly welcoming (as they are famed for) and seemed just as excited as we were with the hard product.

1A is definitely larger than 2A and 3A however it is an odd configuration and you are sitting forward of the windows during take-off and landing positions. Hence if you are one who enjoys staring out the windows you would be quite disappointed or you would have a sore neck.

The various compartments are interesting but I found it hard to utilise the space - the day amenity kit (that with the candle) was placed in one compartment but that meant you could not close the compartment whilst the kit was located within. Likewise another compartment where the earphones were placed within - again you would not be able to close the compartment with the headphones within. I left my phone, passport and boarding pass in the compartment with the mirror and lights. Another thing to note was that the lids seem to stick and there seems to be an issue with fit and alignment.

The tablet allows you to control your entertainment and lighting in the suite amongst other things. It is quite useful and there is a holder on the side where the dining table is located - however that is just a holder and not a charger. Leslie indicated that the table had about 90 minutes charge on it. We had an issue with the table for 1A as it could not be removed from the charger. Apparently there is a mechanism that locks the tablet in place during take-off and landing - and this had somehow locked in place this trip. Leslie and Paul had to utilise a screw driver to remove it from the charger.

I'll stop here for now as I'm dying to grab a shower. I'll add a few more observations to end this lengthy post. The beds are quite comfortable however my SO mentioned that it was harder than the Qantas First Class seats we flew last year - she thought a slightly thicker padding would have been ideal. The doors are locked in place for take-off and can be unlocked on request...as mentioned previously this is ideal if there is a passenger across in the opposite suite - you dine facing that passenger and them facing you. Bathrooms are both spacious enough - the left bathroom is smaller due to the seat for the crew. TV screens are massive and are touch screens - but are just about useless if you do not lower the blinds during the daytime flight.

That's it for now. Happy to answer any questions and post any pics - I took a lot (can't say they're any good).

Edit: Yes we did get the Lalique pyjamas. Love the feel of these pyjamas.

Thanks for the report.

Are you not allowed to rotate the seat to face the windows during take-off & landings?

Seats must face forward for takeoff and landing.

Row 1 has an additional screen on the front wall to loo at as the larger screen on the side wall is behind you.

I was on 1F and yes during take-off and landing you need to face forward looking at the small screen. However, 1A anf 1F is bugger than other suites though.

Finally, the bathrooms are HUGE!

No. During take-off and landing the seats must face forward, the screens must be stowed back against the wall (controlled electronically) and the suite doors locked in the open position.

IMHO, it’s an improvement in all aspects except for the amenity kit. I don’t know if anyone is as disappointed but I think the Lalique amenity kit is a huge downgrade from Ferragamo’s. Most bizzare contents include a hotel size soap and a glass fish. Candle just add to the weight of the kit but quite useless too (would be far better if it’s perfume). Heard that they will be gradually replacing all Ferragamo with Lalique. The slippers in the old config is already Lalique so the transition has started.

Box is ugly, contents useless. I’ve only used lip balm. I still use an old EK J kit as a travel wash bag as the size and style was good. Not sure this one will make it home.

PJs - I find top real ill fitting. The medium is too wide on me, yet too short for my torso. Shoulders fit weird.

The amount of space in the suite is unbelievable though. Minor gripes about facing small screen for take off or inability to recline chair in most positions are quickly forgotten.

Eating position didn’t bother me, but no one was in 1F. It was difficult to talk to +1 through dinner though, felt like she was miles away.

One annoyance was there didn’t seem to be an easy way to pause TV. Particularly through meals staff were in and out of cabin and there was not an intuitive way of quickly pausing the entertainment to talk to them.

All up though, it’s phenomenal.

Are the old amenities kits in regular SQ F still available, or are all F in the new kits?

Mrs tizey has friends already chasing the perfume in the old F kit - she'll be disappointed if no more!!

Hard to say. We received the Ferragamo kits on the SIN-CDG leg which we flew on the 29th of Jan but received the Lalique (Candle) Kit on the CDG-SIN leg which we flew on 23rd of Feb. I had suspected that the Ferragamo kits were given out on the night flight but the Lalique kits were being given out on day flights - even the "overnight" day flights - since we received the Lalique (Candle) kits on the CDG-SIN but received the "proper" Lalique amenity kits on the SIN-SYD which was an "overnight" flight departing in the evening.

TL;DR: There is a possibility of the Ferragamo kits in the F (non suites) if it is an overnight flight.

Interesting. Sounds like a mixed bag and who knows what we'll get.. day flight MEL-SIN connecting to night flight SIN-NRT. Will report back in a month once flown
