@Welshie really hope all these comments encourage you to bid:)
Well that’s a good point - the upgrade would be worth it just to avoid the J lounge :)

The ice cream and the cheese and crackers were the only edible things. And don’t get me started on the toilets :) Staff were very nice though.

I find Sydney business to be old and worn .
For all the commentary on the QF Mel int lounge, I was quite shocked at the state of the Syd business lounge when I visited it recently. It's been an eye opener this year dropping from WP for the first time in a decade to see the business lounges. OT, whilst I hate this current design ethic of not including windows, the Mel int lounge was nothing like a bad a I had prepared myself for.

you did better than us - we did an impulse trip last Christmas -Cbr-syd-Sfo with Qantas in J and it was $12,000 each. :). Just in case you missed it - that was in business. Had to take a large number of deep breaths before I paid that. However last minute booking in late December you get what you deserve.

Generally I think it is easier to get cost effective F fares to Europe vs America or Africa.

No doubt the deal we leveraged is a stunner compared to that J fare.... given ours will also earn DSC :)

Fares to USA run hot and cold ..... timing is everything.

given up on status credits - they have zero interest :). And yes timing is important, although not always possible.

Agree, the toilets are far from edible
Does that mean the staff were?

That makes for a long trip to SFO .... much rather just head to the SYD F lounge.
but then you have to fly Qantas. We have plenty of time - going to New York via Doha and looked at Sq and Ek as well, but decided we couldn’t afford another F fare after Africa and the Antarctica cruise. If we were going to SFO this time, we would still have taken the same route, but continued to SFO after a few shows on Broadway. Fortunately Master FM decided to come over to New York to see us - much as I love SFO we’ve kind of done it to death.:)

But we are going offtopic here....
