First Qantas A220 revealed

ill be sad to see them go - might try to get one last ride - what routes are they flying? Any special retirement flights?

I will miss the 717 also, the most fun jet ride in Australia - the takeoffs!

But the A220s are also great to fly, albeit less like a rocket ship taking off.

I had the good fortune to fly in the Impulse 717s when they first arrived, which became Jetstar, then QantasLink. On a flight from Sydney to Brisbane, there must have been only ten people on board and you pick any seat you liked. I went down the last row, so I could get the 'buzz' watching the jet pivot up on rotation and then climbing out - almost as good as roller coaster.

Well, I flew one of these things (A220-300) yesterday from MEL to CBR in seat 2A. I was apalled at the lack of legroom and when the person in front fully reclined his seat, it was extremely claustrophobic.

Might be a nice aircraft, but the way Qantas has configured them renders them fairly awful from most passengers' perspectives IMHO. I will avoid them in future. Makes sitting in 3A on a VA 737 look pretty good in comparison, at a much lower price.

I had 2 flights booked on a220 for January to try them out but both flights the aircraft has been switched out to 737 with a time chnage. Oh well.

As of 01SEP24, planned Qantas A220 network additions in the 4th quarter as follows.

Melbourne – Coffs Harbour eff 27OCT24
Melbourne – Launceston eff 14OCT24
Sydney – Hobart eff 19NOV24
Sydney – Launceston eff 27OCT24

The carrier’s A220 aircraft already serves Melbourne – Brisbane, Melbourne – Canberra and Melbourne – Hobart.

I am looking at this coming Friday - there are currently four MEL-BNE flights showing as scheduled to be operated by "223" equipment. (9:20am, 10:45am, 3:25pm and 9:30pm)

VH-X4E is scheduled for delivery mid/late November. The next after that will be March so there is a bit of a gap

A220s are going to slowly trickle in. Big order books but i remember reading that Airbus can't really scale up production because it's not really an Airbus and getting parts manufacturing scaled up is very hard and they're kind of in a weird spot with the 220 program long term in their fleet.
