PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I wanted to get some help if possible - I'm booked on QF568 this Friday out of Perth, lucky me its the 11.55pm flight after a large dinner and I put in for an upgrade to J. At the moment it says no upgrades available and wanted to see what the chance of the upgrade coming available between now and then. ...
Please see tip in post #1.

J9 D0 I0 ... - Your best bet may be a ODU. Other than that, keep trying. Domestic upgrades are not waitlisted, either U class is available or not ...

With those loadings, the best you could hope for is a row of 4 seats to yourself - that flight is nearly empty - G class what!. :p

Back from BA15 and you were right, like everytime!

The 777 configuration in Y was 3-3-3 and every person had a row to themselves, and there were even a few empty rows. [and yes, no op-up like you predicted :(]

Now my next flight 16/6 SYD-SIN QF31 .... applied for Y to J and I know its a long way away, but I'll be keeping tabs:

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get on the QF449 tomorrow (13/5 1630 from SYD-MEL), to connect to QF481 in MEL. It appears that, at the moment at least, only fully flexible (Y) fares are available on that flight. The flight an hour earlier, QF445, has seats in K class. Does anyone know if it is likely that the K fare class on QF449 might open up between now and then, and if I can ask at the airport if they'd change it for me if I went ahead and booked the QF445 first?

Thanks guys for all your help!

Any chance for an upgrade?

I have the following booking in O class, (sale fare)

QF141: SYD-AKL
QF025: AKL-LAX
QF3202 (AA) LAX-DFW

Do I have any chance for an upgrade to Business class? The QF website does not allow requests for Business class with my fare. Would calling QF help? Should I hope that on the day of travel I will be offered upgrade to J from points?
I don't mind traveling SYD-AKL in economy, but the second flight, (AKL-LAX) will be more challenging . Thank you for your kind advise.

If you don't have an eligible fare class then it is unlikely to get an upgrade.

If I had the date of travel then I could check the loading through expertflyer to see if Qantas would ring customers to entice them to use points if the flight was empty.

Qantas are very stingy when it comes to offering upgrades, one of the major disppointments of Qantas frequent flyer especially to there Platinum members.

As a WP you are in the running for an opup (I have had it happen) if any happen but I do not think that QF would even consider you for a points upgrade because of your fare class.

IMHO it never hurts to ask but do not be surprised or upset if/when they just say NO. If you post the dates of your flight then someone could look up the seating availability on Expert Flyer for you.

I just paid for access to Expert Flyer, does that make me some kind of sad flying geek now :( All I know looking at the site is my flights on QF11 and AF12 over coming weeks are very full with around 10 Business Class seats left and no PE.

I am begining to wonder if flying the 747 trip rather than the A380 gives you a better chance of upgrade and more room as it seems everyone wants to fly A380.

My son is an A Tech, he calls the A380 a Scarebus

Appreciate your comments/advise very much. The details of my flights:

14/6/2011 @ 06.30 - QF141: SYD-AKL
14/6/2011 @ 13.05 - QF025: AKL-LAX
14/6/2011 @ 10.55 - QF3202 (AA) LAX-DFW

Thank You

Never say never, but as others have advised, an upgrade request (and by all means ring and try and lodge one, but prepare for a negative response) is likely to be knocked back due to the fare class not being eligible.

Operational upgrades can happen also, but are fairly rare. So again, never say never, but unlikely.

Current availability as per below; I'll let others interpret the numbers.

Can anyone see the loadings for QF010 SIN-MEL on 16 June? Looking at QF seatmap and it appears to be wide open. Currently allocated 80K on A380 and would be nice to have a vacant seat next to me.

I don't think SIN is a strong destination for QF. I would love to have a full QF flight to/from SIN as that would increase my chances of an op-up but it has not happened to me for a while.

See post #1 for a tip on how to garner loadings.

FWIW 80J is showing unallocated on E/F.

We are on this flight two days earlier and it is looking quite empty - however we are in Emerald city on points redemption - still showing I9 ...

Anyone care to call an ug from J to F on QF11 on 6th June, on points ?

WP plus request in for a while now.

Hi There,

I'm a QFF Gold flyer, wondering if there is any chance of a J upgrade on QF11 June 3 - I requested it over two months ago (if that makes a difference). I'm in Y+.

My ExpertFlyer trial shows 9 J seats available. Not sure if upgrade seats.

TIA.

Ron

Your SYD-LAX flight is showing:

F4 A1 J9 C9 D6 I0 W6 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0

Being in PE, I suggest that as an SG your chances are reasonable. If it had been showing any I class (e.g. I4) then chances tend to be good.

One thing in your favour is that over half the seats in Business are unallocated.

Thanks Serfty, you're a legend. It also means I'm getting the hang of the coding, but did realise it was J, C and D. I'll reread the rules on that.

Cheers
Ron

Will post here in the correct thread, thanks serfty.

could someone possibly advise, what are the chances of a Y -> J upgrade request actually being a possibility (or not) for 16th June on QF11?
TIA.
