PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

QF63 SYD-JNB - 25/06/2011 - so looking at this availability - F2 A1 J0 C0 D0 I0 W0 R0 T0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0 - one would assume that economy is sold out, as I can't get a seat on the direct flight via qantas.com; premium econ and business are available.

Looking at the EF seat map there are only a handful of economy seats occupied, so wondering if there are some knowledgeable folks here who can interpret what's happening with this flight? If I had to guess I'd say it is a chance of being cancelled? Or could I expect a Y seat to open up once the load controllers take a look?

The 63 is operating a long way north of the normal routing to avoid the ash cloud. Longer flight, more fuel...so I wouldn't be surprised if the loads are being limited.

I'm on QF31 from Sydney to London Heathrow on the 16th June, and QF32 back to Sydney on the 27th June. Both ways in J. Does anyone by any chance have any thoughts on chances of scoring a points upgrade to F?

How did your upgrade go?

I checked earlier this morning and my upgrade request has came through :) and so did my girlfriend's :) Too bad we've had limited seat choices remaining and had to go all the way back to row 24 :( since those were the only seats that had adjacent seating.

Mine came thorugh this morniggn for QF11, not a great selection of seats in J but for a sub $500 ticket cost I'll take the seat I've been allocated. :)

Is it my imagination or are QF premium cabins full at the moment while economy cabins are wide open?

I am on QF010 tonight SIN-MEL and went to SIN transfer C desk earlier and was again offered a seat on the direct QF006 SIN-SYD flight. I kindly refused and explained to the lady that I had 80K allocated and did not want to risk another seat and she brought up the seat map and said "Oh, that is exit row".

Well not quite but it would appear economy is wide open on both flights but premium cabins are full(ish).

Yep, that seems to be the case currently, especially on the 388's.

We experienced it over the last 10 days. Both QF10 and QF31 chokers up top. We flew Oz to/from SIN in Business. First time for many a day that no upgrades came though (S class SIN/LHR). At least we had 50B/C each way (SWMBO does not like seats with 'nothing' in front; preferring bulkheads). Now have 224K QFF points more than budgeted. :p

The mrs was on QF1 to LHR in J earlier this week and she said that on the UD all seats were taken for the flight to BKK and there were about 7 free ones on to LHR

For a 14hr+ flight that's cool :)

My SIN-SYD-SIN cost ~$750 including paying for an exit row seat, with an op-up SIN-SYD and a 40K points upg SYD-SIN :) The total cost ended up being $750 + ~24,000 ff points (40k less points earn) = SIN-SYD return in J :)

PS. met up with ajca in the SYD F Lounge and his SYD-SIN-LHR upgrade was confirmed ..... so it was First all the way ... lucky guy ;)

I'm awaiting the results of my upgrade request LAX-SYD QF 12 on the 16th ..... I don't want to be stuck back in Econ.
But saying that I do have seat 71D else wise, but I'd rather J :)

After just stepping off QF11 I've got to say J on the 388 was just so so. Food was ok and the lie flat seats, well they certainly were lie flat but they seemed narrower than the 744 equivelant. Mind you, I'm a hardcore Y flyer throuought the year (besides the occasional op-up) so I'm certainly not an expert in premium cabim flying.

To be honest I'm thinking of cancelling my request for the way back and just sticking with my pre allocated 80A.

Anyone have any theories?

First time in row 80 last night and I must say I would rather prefer to be up front in bulkhead. Should have taken the offer of a flight change to the direct SIN-SYD flight last night on a 744 as I have missed another MEL-SYD connection due to international flight arriving late into MEL. I think I am about 0/4 and time to look for alternatives....

Been told by the lounge guard at LAX that flights to SYD/MEL are totally full at the moment. Making my chances of upgrade to J or even Y+ impossible.

Should I be disappointed by that ? The last 6 legs OS I have taken have been on BA and I got unasked upgrades on 4 of the 6 legs to either y+ or j, but if I try. But on QF the first chance I get... nothing...

I have requested an upgrade from Premium Economy to Business on qf107 (syd - lax) next Tuesday the 28th.

curious to know what the possibility looks like at the moment. my status is LTG.

thanks in advance.

thanks for the information on the flight and first post. I was not aware of the first post info.

happy about that, I've got to head on to Indiana the morning I land and then be on my feet working the next day at 7am.

I would like to think if you are LTG it puts you in a higher category than just Gold - anyone care to elaborate on this. The cynic in me says it doesnt however.

Hi All
Flying on QF 93 MEL_LAX on Wednesday 29th June.
Currently on a Premium Economy Airfare and am Gold Status. Have had an upgrade request on for over a month to go to BUsiness. Anyone know the chance of this coming through or the load levels?

THanks!

P.S. Posted this in operations post but i think it belongs here not there, if a mod could delete it would be appreciated

[Upgrade Chance] questions from another "Newbie"

Hi all,
first thread, and I am sure most of you have already been asked, so hopefully I will not cause you too much grief...

1. By end of November this year, I will have enough QFF points for a return flight to New York planned for November 2012.

I know that if I want to claim a flight on points I need to book as early as possible due to the few seats allocated per flight, plus I would have to pay apprx $1400.00 in taxes for the 2 of us.

My question: I would prefer to buy 2 tickets (not NEOQ seats) and use the points for upgrade to Business Class, but really from your collective experience - what are my chances of getting the upgrade??
(Bronze member only)

and what days of the week, would I have a better chance of getting upgraded?

I hate the thought of paying top dollar, and then not getting my upgrade request.

Thank you to those that take the time to reply.

Re: [Upgrade Chance] questions from another "Newbie"

FIRST question - what status do you have with QFF?

Bronze member is stated in the OP.

To the OP - I'd say your chances of buying an upgradable fare and then being successful in points upgrades coming through for 2 people would be as close to nil as you could get. The chances of only one of the two coming through would be about 0.000001% higher than above.

That's not to say it's not possible however highly unlikely due to your status.

I'd either buy a business fare and be sure of comfort or buy the cheapest fare and save a few bucks and points.

Re: [Upgrade Chance] questions from another "Newbie"

I agree with Vec 110% - and as for missing his status in OP - darn, shouldn't try and read (let alone reply) without that first cup of coffee in the morning.
