PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

QF Flight Load Check

This will be a dumb question for those in the know... but I'm new to using ExpertFlyer so be nice!

I'm on QF31 next week and the loading is showing as:

sydsin.jpg

As basically all of the economy classes are showing 9, I'm guessing that means it's fairly empty?

I'm also on QF82 SIN-ADL a few days later, and it's showing:

sinadl.jpg

So every single economy class fare is 0, does that mean it's oversold? Business doesn't look so bad.

Looking at the seat map:

sinadlseat.jpg

The majority of the seats are showing as "X" which I thought meant they were blocked for some reason (ie: higher status). I have allocated right up the front and the QF online booking will let me select all of the seats that are showing as "X"'d out. Can't really understand why they'd all be blocked.

It's probably me not understanding it... but it just seems odd that a SIN-ADL is oversold (if that's the case) about 12 days out. Does that mean as WP I might actually be in with a shot of an upgrade

Re: QF Flight Load Check

That is how it reads to me, but I'm no wiz in these areas. I had a Y+ seat booked on QF10 not long ago which was showing all zeroes in Y and Y+ a couple of weeks out from the flight, but with room in J. My points upgrade came through. I ended up on different flights/routing for other reasons, but the upgrade request itself was successful. Have you asked for a points upgrade or are hoping for an op-up? I suspect you're a chance in either case. But all care, no responsibility. :)

Yep, QF31 is rather empty (X9) is very indicative.

... and QF82 is chockers in economy, WP hoping for an op-up would be behind all hoping for a points upgrade.

How many empty seats in the J cabin?

Thanks, seem I do understand it all fairly well! I've done the "allocate A/C and hope for a free B" on QF31 so I guess that might be looking fairly safe. X in economy are award seats, aren't they?

Haven't put in for the J upgrade on QF82. There are two of us and I can't justify the additional points for such a short flight. Op up would be nice, but it's never happened for me before and I'm not counting on it this time!

Any reason why so many seats would be blocked right through to the back of economy?

J cabin is showing 16/30 seats unallocated.

Makes it easier to allocate groups together on full load.

What about blocked ... in any case4, D4 indicates a reasonable light load.

Put in a points upgrade request for MEL-LHR on 4th May, and was talking to the ever so helpful QF customer service lady, and I asked her "What do you think my chances are?" she said; "well each flight is of course different, but in 2011 the overall numbers ran something like 55% chance for SG and 65% for WP in getting upgrades confirmed."

In relation to getting upgrades confirmed the formula obviously recognises status as to who gets priority, but what about within a category, for example:

10 WP's in PE all wanting to Upgrade using points. With only 5 J seats available, how would the lucky 5 be determined?
QF Revenue value on thier status?
Date upgrade requested?
Thier surname is Aardvark and not Zuluman?
Any other factors?

Anyone able to check J --> F upgrade availability on QF 127 (Sydney to Hong Kong) this Friday 3rd February?

Thank you in advance

Anyone able to check J --> F upgrade availability on QF 127 (Sydney to Hong Kong) this Friday 3rd February?

No upgrade seats available right now (as expected), but the flight looks wide open:

F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0

While I doubt there'll be loading related op-ups, I like your points upgrade chances.

Thanks Ewing - points upgrade has been requested (not holding out for an op up).

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Hoping someone can help me out.
I've had to book a last minute flight tomorrow Feb 04 in economy(!) on QF9 Melbourne to Singapore. Hoping it's not full so I can get some room down the back. Does anyone know how many seats are available?
Thanks!

Tomorrow (3[SUP]rd[/SUP])? or the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]?

If Friday 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] then wide open!:

Oh serfty, thank you!! It is tomorrow the 3rd. :p
I am hoping to appeal to the humanity of whomever is at the check-in counter as I'm flying back the following day (that is "business" on jetstar - about the only airline I could get).
Why is everyone flying on Saturday I wonder?

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've had a look at QF107 (SYD-LAX) for Sat 4 Feb 12, and as I understand it, the loadings from flightstats show that the flight is very full, especially in Y:

F2 A0 P0 J1 C1 D1 I1 U0 W5 R0 T0 Z0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 G0 X0 E0

I've looked on the Qantas website and seats in Y for that flight are not on sale.

I'm a WP flying in Y (well, V to be precise), although when I look at the seat map there are about 20-25 free seats still remaining, including two free seats next to me (hooray!).

Am I reading the loadings wrong? I know that this may not be the most appropriate thread, but can someone explain why this might be the case? I'm currently in an A seat... perhaps I'll make a gamble and move to B to solidify my attempt to claim the ABC trifecta.

Cheers,
lurker

I would suggest you have close to no chance of having a spare seat beside you with those numbers.

Seat selection maps are not generally a good guide, especially since Qantas charge have a pre-selection fee for those in economy with no status.

As you indicate WP status there is a slightly better than normal chance you might be travelling in cabin higher than that booked.

Ahhh... thanks serfty. That would explain the "spare" seats. I just checked again and now *all* seats are now showing as selected, as you would expect with those loadings. Very strange coincidence indeed.

One can only hope. Thanks again for the quick response.

Yeah, that happens whenever the computers do their preallocation stuff within a day or three of the flight.
