PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I9 is good, U would be better as U is the award class for Qantas Business.

Thanks for clearing that up, bit ahead of myself, will know one way or the other Monday once I call QFF.

Was hoping someone could confirm my understanding of upgrade chances on an upcoming Christmas day flight:

J1 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q7 G0 E0

  1. At this stage there are plenty of seats available in the Y cabin. They are unlikely to be sold by Christmas as most holiday goers will have booked already? Op-up chances are basically zero, right?
  2. Additionally, the J cabin looks to be almost completely sold out. Making an upgrade (even and ODU with points) unlikely?

One further question. A QF ODU with points (processed in the lounge, for example) costs the same amount of points as a regular points upgrade right? They don't do them cheaper just to try to fill the seats do they?

It's likely the J cabin is oversold; op-up chances are minimal.

Are there any flights on the same route within an hour or two of this one and what are their loadings?

ODU's cost the same points as qantas.com upgrades.

Thanks serfty, there are some nearby flights with seemingly more op-up friendly flight loadings however my arrival time is relatively important. Also I'm not on a flexible fare so changes will be somewhat expensive I think. :(

No, but that does not mean it won't happen - I fly economy more often than not so it's really outside of my experience.

A more interesting question may be "have you ever known them to oversell F with no backup?".

Yes good one. We will need an insider for that one!

Hi all,

I'm on QF 107 to LAX tomorrow with my mum (CL), dad (CL) and sister (PS).

My mum was originality flying in J, dad, my sister and I were all in PE with points upgrade requests. My dad has been upgraded (no points have been debited though) and I've been upgraded as well (same with no points being debited). However, I am now allocated the same seat as mum which is a bit odd. Could she be given an upgrade to first? Also I assume the odds of my sister being upgraded as well are minimal as the loads are -

That looks like the definition of "chock a block"

Enjoy the upgrade & have a good trip.

QF 108 on Feb 20th

Anyone know and let me know of Business class availability on QF 108 on Feb 20th. Currently have coach award ticket using AA miles and am hoping a business seat becomes available. Just wanting to know my chances....Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the flightstats tip in post #1?

Chances of Business Class Upgrade - QF 7 Sydney to Dallas Feb 4th 2013

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are booked to fly Sydney to Dallas on 4th Feb 2012 on QF7

We currently have an upgrade request in for Premium Economy but I was thinking of topping up some points to possibly get us Business Class seats.

Does anyone know the current seat vacancies in Premium Economy and Business Class on this flight?

Many thanks,

Wayne.

Sorry I meant qf7 Sydney to Dallas 4th Feb 2012. Chances of y+ or J seat upgrades

Its a bit far out to be guestimating your upgrade chances as alot of seat purchase/cancellations can happen between now and then. Generally a week before travel is a good idea of what your chances may be.

I think post #1 of this thread gives you a guide on how to find out, for free, what the seat loadings are like and then you can interpret what your chances are. Ideally, you are looking for high "I" figures.

Upgrade Chances?

Just wondering what the mood of the meeting is on the chances of a points upgrade in this scenario. QF10 SIN-MEL (A380) in a couple of weeks time. I'm afraid I'm not much chop on interpreting these things (though I suspect all the zeroes in the W/Y cabins may be be a good omen).

EF bucket count: F3 A2 J9 C7 D2 I1 W0 R0 T0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0

Bought PE seat, and submitted points upgrade request to J exactly the day it was submissible (90 days out)? Am WP.

EF Seat Map shows 5 unallocated seats in F, 19 in J (and 5 blocked) and W is chockers - every seat allocated. Y (as is to be expected) has plenty of unallocated seats.

TBH, I won't be overly fussed if the upgrade does not clear, as I've never travelled QF PE, so it would add to the knowledge base, but given I've requested it, it would be nice if the upgrade went through.

Cheers

For a WP, point upgrade from PE to J is as probable as it's going to be. Forget the seating allocation - economy is oversold!

I tried this question as a post in the QFF thread but to no avail, so maybe someone here can shed some light: Why would QF have a blackout on FF seats to Singapore from 12 Dec this year?

I can see the flights if I try an book a paid seat, but when I do a seaarch for Classic Award seats from any capital city = SYD, MEL, BNE, PER - for the week 12/12/2012 to 19/12/12 there is zero availability. It's not a seasonal blackout, as I can go to Bangkok or Hong Kong, just not SIN. Very curious... and very inconvenient, as I had been planning to stop over there on my way to the Northern Hemisphere this Xmas... :(
