PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I'm trying to build a rough picture of what needs to happen in order for Y pax to be upgraded to PE (or beyond).

This is my interpretation.

With F8, J2, W2 and Y0 the plane looks completely full except the handful of seats primarily in the F cabin.

Assuming there is an oversell of Y, QF will try to free up some space and to do so they need to make some space in J or Y+ .... the likely way is by moving some J to F , then some Y+ to J .... then there is room for Y seats to be free by sending some pax to Y+ or J.

Its likely there will be a handful of pax who have requested a points upgrade, these would be processed first (J to F, Y+ to J, and then Y to Y+/J).

If there still remains an oversell in Y ... then op-ups may start.

Ok, Flight stats incorrectly classifies W and R as economy but on Qantas they are actually Premium Economy fare buckets.

So "6W, R4" indicates Qantas are willing to sell up to 6 PE fares in the expensive W class or up to 4 discounted PE fares in the R fare bucket. There is another PE fare bucket, T which Qantas are no longer selling on this flight.

Thank you, mystery solved! So I think I can assume there are no spare seats in economy at this point :p

If you guys can indulge me for a moment, I'm just trying to further my understanding here.

Here's QF 93 for tomorrow (Friday) night. The colour codings are mine obviously.

We can see that there's no availability in the economy cabin, at all.

If we look at the availability now we can see that even O class is available again just to try to squeeze in another booking.

QF 093 F1 AL J4 C2 D2 I1 W2 R2 T2 Y4 B4 H4 K3 M3 L1 V1 S1 N1 Q1 O1 GL

the thing also is that Travel Agents hold seats for customers and forget to cancel them, these seats then get HX'd (cancelled by the system) closer to travel date which opens up additional inventory.

Ok, so when I went in about ten days ago, it was showing as 2 economy seats left, only 1 actually showing (in Y) on the mouseover. But when I just went back in today it now says there are 6 economy seats available - 6W, R4, Y2, B1, H1.

Can anyone explain what's going on?

Well availability in the economy cabin is back down to zero now. Let us know if you get an upgrade.

Have you put in an upgrade request with points? Or are you just hoping for an opup?

Hoping for an op up - didn't have enough points to request an upgrade both ways, so we have a request in for the way back

Happy to report that my points upgrade from full fare Y to J was accepted recently on BNE-HKG... the night before departure, the flight was showing J9 C9 D4 I4 (plus about 8 free in economy)- the upgrade was confirmed online at around 8am (flight time was 11:15pm that night), and I was seated next to a WP who had also requested a points upgrade from Y->J.

The flight home is this Friday - currently showing as J3 C3 D3 I3 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0... given that there are only 3 J seats remaining, but that all are available as D and I class fares, what will my chances be like? ... I know usually one would look to any I class availability as a sign of a high chance, but with only 3 seats in total, does this make it more likely that they won't upgrade anyone at all using points?

Many thanks! :)

"J3 C3 D3 I3" tells me they are willing to sell up to 3 business class seats for whatever they can get $$$ wise.

:)

If i am correct, (and there are plenty here who will correct), that 8 free means they are prepared to sell another 8 (as Serfty alludes to), but they may have already oversold say 10 seats, however on that route at that time they have estimated no shows to a formula that drives the oversales and therefore what is available, ala 8 in this case. in other words they will oversell to 18, in that simple example.

have you ever known them to oversell J with no F as backup?
No, but that does not mean it won't happen - I fly economy more often than not so it's really outside of my experience.

A more interesting question may be "have you ever known them to oversell F with no backup?".

We're trying to squeeze into the SYD Flounge early than scheduled & are hoping that we can get an earlier BNE-SYD flight. Also our lift to the airport is going to get us into BNE a lot earlier than we really wanted!

Currently on BA7413 or QF525 and would appreciate if someone can post the loadings for QF515 & QF517.

There are 5 in our party and our current class is D

Thanks

I am assuming your flight is tomorrow?

QF 515 J6 C4 D2 IL
QF 517 J7 C5 D2 IL

Give it a go when you get to the airport. In my experience they will want to get you away as soon as possible freeing some seats on later flights. Only catering might be an issue but with Flounge breakfast to look forward to that should be fine :D

Need help, as on Monday19th will have enough QFF points (384K) for 2 in J CNS/SYD (or depart other cities) to LAX return Aug/Sept next, want to be away 14 to 17 days max, can depart any day of week, and if not out of CNS then out of a city will do and will just get add on fare.

As SG I could see some J couple weeks back for 192K points + fees/taxes each seem to have gone now, would like to know if any J seats available at same similar rate, be nice to know before calling QF.
