Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

+400 for Uncle Toby's Farmer's Pick muesli bars, which were half-price last week.

Also flybuys redeemed (with +15% bonus) to Velocity Points faster than expected, within less than 15 hours.

Yep. Flybuys is as stupid as Woolworths Rewards.

After a couple of $40 spend offers they are now offering 4,000 Flybuys points for $200 spend in one transaction in the next 5 days. No activation button on this offer.

I only just scraped in with the $40 offers when each was earning 2,000 Flybuys points. What makes them think I can spend $200?

Pretty sure that's on offer for everyone rather than a targeted offer (hence the no activation button) so I'm not sure they do think that!

And a fairly poor one for small households!

I was also unimpressed by this part:

"on your first shop at Coles between Fri 3 Oct and Tue 7 Nov 2017"

Not great if you happened to make a small purchase today and plan to do your main shop later.

Definitely a general offer, just heard it advertised on the radio on the way home.

No use to us - never in this lifetime would I even get close to spending $200 in a week at Coles, let alone in one transaction!

I'm a supporter of % based discounts but they should really be the same for all regardless of size of shop.

I don't think it's fair that I receive an offer of 2,000 Flybuys points for $40 spend where as others are offered 2,000 Flybuys points for $100 spend.

Now to decide what to do with the Flybuys points. I have 8,000+ Flybuys points in the first week.

Meh, then there'd be no game to play! I'd like that too, but it's a program to get us to spend more, not reward customers.

Toaster?! ;-)

I doubt the powers to be at Woolies and Coles see these rewards programs as stupid. As you have mentioned, the $200 offer is a generic offer, and have been happening fairly often as of late.

Not having targeted offers would defeat the purpose behind the program. If everyone receives the same Spend X, Get Y points, yet 90% wouldn't be able to realistically achieve the spend amount, it is useless as a carrot being dangled. Personally tailor the offers, you get more people trying to spend that little bit extra to get the bonus points.

My wife shows me the chatter in the We <3 Flybuys Facebook page. Shows me how serious some people take the points hunting game. With the latest round of vouchers mailed out, it shows how small some people's base points tally is compared to their bonus points.

I don't disagree with you.

I think % based incentives would better but that's me. If my spend target was $40 then $40 then $200 then that would be silly. They stretched me at $40 twice as I bought some things like Pepsi Max and nappies for use later. Impossible to make $200 and I may go elsewhere if stretch target too difficult.

I don't see this as a game. Far from it. I'm quite serious about $ savings and in the past collected points with Qantas instead of the $ savings but the taxes on awards are ludicrous.

I haven't decided about Flybuys yet. Awards to HKG on VA are difficult and awards to Thailand on SQ are ridiculously priced in terms of points needed.

I've got $40 worth of points in just over a week. That's a couple of tins of baby formula or 4 x 50 nappies for daughter. A lot more important than saving for a flight that will cost me ~$600 return to purchase and also earn points and count towards status.

You can see I'm quite serious.

JohnK, it is a topic that does come up fairly often in the Facebook groups that my wife shows me as to why some people get some very enticing targets whilst others aren't worthwhile.

I guess the gaming part of it comes down to not blindly shopping at one of the majors over the other in an attempt to keep the offers targets as low as possible. The other thing is to keep an eye on the specials, as some weeks things like nappies can be half price. The savings do add up and are better than going the full price product just for the sake of points. Huggies may be considering the best, but if the price is right brands such as Baby love can do the job just as well.

We <3 Flybuys Facebook page

I haven't heard of this page but I am curious. Is this a facebook page that discusses flybuys offers? I've read the official facebook page before but I didn't know of any other facebook page about flybuys. Is it a public or private page?

I'm one of those people who have a tiny base points balance and a huge bonus point balance.

It is a closed group - there can be some gems amongst the normal questions.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. I don't have a facebook account and can only access the flybuys main page when I have a chance (and when the security systems don't block me out)

We go through 5-6 nappies/day. I see the price of Huggies and faint. The $11 generic Woolworths/Coles nappies do the trick just nicely.

2,000pts for two weeks above $50. I have decided to take it as I'll be spending that much anyway.

Still, it's a bit sad.

A few weeks back I got the spend $50 in one transaction for 4 weeks in a row to get 10000 points or $50 off. I elected the $50 off (I don't convert my points to VFF points). So I did that, and I looked on my receipt and it said $50 off the next time you spend $50 in a transaction....so if I spend $40, I won't get the discount. I also don't see it anywhere on the FlyBuys website when I log in (I thought it would have been FlyBuys dollars), so I hope it works when I use it next. Should have went 10000 points, more versatile and of equal value.

Yes, 10.000 points converted to flybuys dollars is much more useful than a one off $50 discount.

You could use it to cover your entire $40 transaction. You can use whatever amount you need, you don't need to use it in multiples of 10 like Woolworths Rewards.

You can also use the transaction total towards you next targeted offer. Let's say your next target is $50. You could get to that amount for the transaction, use the payment method flybuys dollars to pay and then you've qualified for your next reward without spending additional cash. If you use the discount, only the total after the discount counts towards your targeted offer.
