Re: Many people being comped status recently?

If you get comped, it appears that you would definitely receive a letter, and specific information in your account (such as the pop up) to show that you are getting whatever status for another year. This would have happened a few weeks before the expiry date so if by the time the year ends, and none of it happened, it's very unlikely you've got comped. The status stays there for a few more days to collect any outstanding SCs from the last week of the month with an incorrect expiry date, before it vanishes in a puff of smoke. I haven't seen it myself, although this was the case with a friend.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

I was comped WP , middle of August last year, but I also had a few flights already booked which took me over what I needed by the 31st of August anyway, hopefully that unneeded comp won't count against me when I do actually need it.

I had exactly this situation in August last year, with my renewal 31 August, I was comped WP about 20th August - with a European trip on 28 August which would have requalifed me anyway. I only got a congratulatory pop up - no letter except the one in Mid-Sept which was dated 1 September for my "actual" renewal.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

How do you know when the comp happens? My year ended 29 Feb, and I didn't even reach half the points needed to get gold (first year gold). But my page (now on 1st March) still shows gold and now with expiry Feb 2017. Have I been comp'ed, or should I expect to update to silver in the next few days? I have a flight on Friday that would be nice to be gold for.
No letter, nor email either way.

Same situation, though I did receive a comp from QF a couple of years ago (so seriously expecting a downgrade to Silver). Typically your status will "stick" for about a week, theoretically to allow partner airline flight credits to "appear".

Happy wandering

Fred

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

I only received the confirmation pop up on my QF home page in my new year, not beforehand. New card arrived but no special letter saying I'd been comped.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

Well if you have the card and your expiry date is 2017 so that's cool. Congrats

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

Whilst I have not received a pop up, my boarding pass on LAN today is showing Emerald. So even if Qantas have not comped me I am getting a free benefit on today's flight. My past experience is my status has changed on the anniversary date so am getting more hopeful I have been comped.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

How does the 3 year average work?
If the first of the 3 years was your first year as WP do you need to have 1400+1200+1200=3800 or just 3x1200=3600 to meet the criterion?
I assume you do NOT need 3x1400=4200

So in my case:
2013-14 = 2470
2014-15 = 1280
Subtotal = 3750

This is over 3600 but under 3800.
So do I just need to make the 4 ~QF marketed sectors or do I also need to earn at least 50 SCs in 2015-16?

Obviously if I fly 4 sectors (from PER) I will earn more than 50 SCs I am just curious.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

How does the 3 year average work?
It's not an official published benefit, so I wouldn't count on it. Although if you choose to take it on, then from what we've seen here (and what I've seen from my peers), then you would be comp'ed if the same criteria is applied.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

I was comped three times last decade but later retained SG via SC earn anyway.

Since I came across AFF, I have never had to deal with such since.

That's right. It's not a given you will be comped with a high 3 year average. In fact some of the comps make no sense. Be prepared to drop to Gold and if you happen to get comped that's a bonus.

I'm well aware of that.
I didn't ask "Is this a published benefit?" or "Can I rely on this?"
I just wondered if anyone had a clue as to the maths which is applied when it is applied.
I continue to try to accrue as many SCs as possible because I'm chasing life time gold.*

*Like everyone else.

Yes.
Logged in to check my drop to PS yesterday. Was surprised to see I retained SG. With no prior advice, it just reset as SG.
Most of my sc's were accrued in the last month & not near the level required.
MrsB with identical activity (but more points) had been comped to retain SG three weeks back.
Thank you QFF.

Is it still that status on your BP (for partner airlines) is that of whatever status you had at the time of booking? Or is the system a bit better and quicker at picking up real time status these days?

No I had the situation where I dropped from WP to SG a couple of years back and online I still showed WP for several days after the anniversary date before it dropped. I was flying on the 4th and I had dropped by the time I checked in (with my BP showing the lower OW level :-| ). Swan may have just been very lucky. If so good on them.

Just a warning and hopefully I am wrong, but there is an problem with Qantas.com in that it may show you still as SG with an expiry end Feb next year even though you are indeed to drop to PS.

This is because Qantas hold you at your status for a few days into the month, probably to await the chance of any additional SC's from February posting - and the poor job of a web site cannot cope. If this is the case, you may be disappointed early next week.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

Yes, sounds logical, probably will be the case Serfty.
MrsB recieved a "congratulations for reaching gold message" a couple of weeks before, whereas mine just reset the counters.

Re: Many people being comped status recently?

Just to update - comped WP at 1175, with my year ending this month. 3 year averages would have been above 1200.

At 1175 I would've been pushing myself over, just in case I was short again next year

I presume your "Year" finishes on March 31st?
