Freedom of speech

=You can add Margaret Court to that as well.
Margaret Court was speaking to a private audience when she outlined her boycott of Qantas for which she was vilified from coast to coast for, and it was just her own opinion and asked nobody to follow. So you can remove Margaret Court from your list and apologise.

you can have those views if you want, and you are free to express them privately (to yourself if necessary). But to use your celebrity to get a platform to disseminate your views is taking it to another level. And you should then take responsibility.

Israel Folau is not expressing HIS views, he is expressing basic Christian doctrine 101 thats upheld by about 13 million australians, about 2 billion world wide, and billions more that lived before us.

There is nothing new in what he said, he pretty much quoted Jesus own words, "all are sinners", and that includes Israel Folau himself, which he has gone to lengths to emphasise.

Its disingenuous to claim he vilified homosexuals with his recent post, when in fact he addressed 'everybody' including himself. That fails to meet any criteria of vilification or discrimination.

Such a change in Israel's views since he appeared on the front cover of a gay magazine: "Big Boys & Their Balls!" The Time Israel Folau Starred On The Cover Of A Gay Mag! - B&T
Israels views have not changed, his public statement a few months ago clarified his position on his faith, his words, the gay community AND this article you refer to.

Sorry but it appears to me that many are intolerant of christian beliefs.
No, not intolerant of a person's right to their beliefs but do not accept that they have a god-given right to publicly demonise others whose life style or behaviours may not sit with their beliefs. I don't care what they think privately - that's their right. I have little time for organised religion, of most persuasions,

Court and Folau don't have to ask people to follow their views. They have celebrity status and some people will pay attention to their views regardless of being asked or not. That's where they need to apply a little bit of responsibility.

Mr Folau is expressing his interpretation of christianity. 13 million christian Australians do not believe that homosexuals are evil and should rot in hell. Wheras arguably most things on the list could potentially cause some harm, he fails to understand that two things - homosexuality and athiesm - are not positive choices, (and in any event, cause no harm). The only reason to include them on the list (homosexuality in particular) is to generate publicity.

I also have little time for organised religion and answer none on the census.Yes many Christians I know are hypocrites but they still have a right to state their beliefs publicly.

A Newspoll in 2010 found 5% of Australians claimed they were vegetarian but only 2% had an exclusively vegetarian diet.
Must have decided not to ask about the diet since as I can't find more up to date figures.
Sanitarium claim at least 44% of Australians eat a vegetarian meal on most days with only 1 or 2 meat meals.
Now I have the occasional vegetarian meal but I still claim to be a Meatatarian.o_O:D:D
A Sanitarium survey? Trouble is, as soon as someone just has toast or weetbix for breakfast they have had a vegetarian meal. Which could lead to a survey that is not very robust.

Vegetarianism is binary. you either are or are not. "I am vegetarian, but I eat fish" is not vegetarian.

See this is where you need an agree button.:D

I am thinking at the next census to declare myself an adherent of Shinto.I like that you are able to have another faith as well.
Yes, I like the Japanese ability to follow more than one religion and practise both (all) at the same time. Prefer that to the 'one true god' muck.

I suspect the ability to have more than one wife has assisted a few religions having thriving numbers ;)

And there in lies the problem.

No one cares what a Buddhist, Hindu, Hari Krishna, Jew, Muslim etc think or say but as soon a Christian says something they come under heavy scrutiny.

I don't know anything about Senator Anning but as soon as he said something that was questionable people jumped down his throat. I wish those same people jumped down the throats of those sprouting hate speech that has been going strong since September 11 including blaming the west for that tragedy but unfortunately those same people are tolerant of that hate speech.

People do not judge equally.

Also a pet peeve of mine - why does nobody know the term pescatarian!

That's because the agenda of the Western left is to eradicate all trace of Christianity from society. They also know that there's no threat from Christian terrorist groups retaliating to the persecution that they suffer. Hence the Christophobic cultural genocide that is currently being implemented in Australia and in many other countries of the West.

That’s not what I said at all. I do not defend the right of anyone of any religion to make public inflammatory comments, be they Buddhist, Jewish, Islamic or any other religion. Christians are just part of the mix. I don’t single them out for special denigration at all.
I’m not going to get involved in any discussion on 9/11 or the Middle East as this is not the right forum for that.

A Sanitarium survey?

You need to be aware that Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing are owned by a religious corporation when analysing the "survey" results. As a profit making non-tax paying corporation they have an agenda to push and money to make whilst not contributing to broader society via taxation.

Neither the Australia nor the New Zealand Sanitarium companies pay company tax on their profits, due to their ownership by a religious organisation

Don't tell me that the old 'anti- Christian conspiracy' line is being wheeled out again. :(
Think I'll let the rest of you argue amongst yourselves,:)

Is a personal statement of belief a public inflammatory comment ?

It can be, yes. A celebrity saying all gay people are bad and will end up in hell can have serious physical and mental health impacts.

The message is simple, use your celebrity platform responsibly. There was no need to include homosexuals on the list.
