In a normal day we wouldn’t hear of any. Because no one really bothers reporting it in the media. Other than AZ times no one cares. Rare doesn’t say much to me - what I’ve got is called a rare disease, APS, but niece and next door neighbour both have it.
‘We’ may not hear about it, but the medical profession must have stats if they are able to say it is ‘extremely rare’.
Without a benchmark either it looks like they haven’t bothered to look up the stats, or they are covering something up. Either way doesn’t look particularly good for building public confidence.
