Any lower and I'd lose more weight but I had to keep eating.

Why ? ( did you have to keep eating…...genuine question )

My reality conceptualises that there is much truth in the variation of human fuel efficiency.

For the sake of argument , I opine that we mostly eat a heap more than we really need regardless of bmi
Did we evolve in a sugar saturated paradise ? don't think so…..

For women 1200 cals a day is a target to lose weight. I try that as a goal and check the various calories in food I eat. I tend to stay the same weight because most days I am just north of that goal. The hidden calorie count in food is amazing.
What do you mean by hidden calories? That you don't realise how many calories are in certain foods?

One of our biggest problems today is the designer coffee culture we have created. People have 3 meals a day plus snacks in between meals sitting in the office all day and then go and order a coffee with milk, cream and sugar and oh that slice of 400 calories looks nice I'll have one of those too please.

Fruit juice for example JohnK. People assume it's healthy. But it is so full of calories as a glass can contain multiple oranges for instance. And it might be consumed with a meal. Yoghurts. Full of sugar. People still get tricked by the 'low fat' labels but in this case it's not the fat that's the problem.

Looked at a tiny wrap in the supermarket. Thought it would be a small snack for lunch. This tiny little wrap that some might consume 2 for lunch contained 400 calories!

I agree about the coffee culture.

Most people don't realise how many kilojoules are in the foods they eat (and I include myself at times). One of the big problems is portion vs package sizing. For example most people would consume a small tub of yoghurt in one go but in many cases the label indicates it is 2 serving sizes. Juices are equally tricky. As Pushka says, one glass contains many more KJs than a piece of fruit (and also without the beneficial fibre). Alcohol is a killer; simply empty calories with no nutritional benefit at all, though that doesn't stop me :)

The Behavioural institute has released a study stating this is more than likely correct.
They couldn't understand why recorded calorie intake was decreasing yet obesity levels were increasing.

It turns out undercounting calories is a very probable cause.

Britons under-report calorie intake, study suggests - BBC News

I remember reading a long time ago that most personal training clients were undercounting by nearly 50% of calories without realising.

Another older study:

Undercounting calories has been going on for ages.
One of my bosses back in 1970 when asked by a patient why they couldn't lose weight would reply-"because you are suffering from caloric amnesia."

For some reason if I don't eat my body goes into starvation mode and instead of losing weight the opposite happens.

If I find breakfast easiest to eat light. Yes I know some do it differently but for me that works fine.

Lunch is split into 5-6 snacks of around 100 calories each although this week I am also having a chicken sandwich.

Dinner is split into 2 or 3 snacks depending what's on. I'll eat the salad/vegetables first then an hour later have the main course. I may also have a couple of small chocolate bars.

It's very easy to eat more. This time around not weighing everything and trying to do it on memory.

My Dad was hospitalised 2 months ago. First it was diagnosed as pneumonia. They discharged him after 5 days and the day of discharge told me it was a "small" heart attack.

After Echo no stents are likely to be required.

They had worries about some enlarged lymph nodes.

Today found out he had prostate cancer which has metastasised into his bones and nodes.

6 months.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Best wishes.
