General Medical issues thread

Those are some of the ugliest shoes I have ever seen. BUT if they "fix" a sprained ankle, I want a pair!

My feet loved me when I switched from Bally/Feragamo to Clarks US and New Balance super wide sneakers. Never let your feet hurt for fashion.

So that explains why my bank account was so full. I did buy all those in the US so the prices were about half the pricing in Australia.
i always try to get the brand name medications that are prescribed rather than the out of patent copy/generic as although the ingredients are roughly the same my body may not absorb the copy drug at the same rate.

Generic scripts - what is the deal here? I realised after I had taken a couple that the chemist had given me generic lupus meds - a new script for me and they didn't even ask if that was ok. These can cause stomach issues so you have to start on a low dose then build up plus the generic ones aren't coated with a stomach-friendly coating.

Dont they have to ask if generic is ok? Especially for a brand new medication for me and they know that as I get all my scripts there.

I think that it is way more profitable for pharmacies to dispense generic meds and I feel I don't need to save money when it is to keep you feeling ok health wise.

I agree totally. Especially for a new medication (for me). I just wasn't asked.

Yes, they definitely should have asked you however rest assured it's the same empirical drug that was prescribed. Generics are almost identical to the originator brand and have been tested as such. No issues with them at all, save for the odd personal issue with additives or colourants etc.

The Australian system is very good when it comes to generic companies. You also have to consider that from a pecuniary perspective, it costs Malcolm and Scott a lot less to pay for in the long run, and coming soon on the first of October is a price decrease for many drugs. generics ultimately benefit everybody, but the days of pharmacists making a killing were over 3 to 4 years ago. It is now a volume game, just like many other industries. Certainly in days gone by, pharmacies made a fair bit extra on generics but the consumer also saved a lot as well don't forget.

the biggest push for cheaper pricing comes from the government as you would expect. see what they did to pathology.see what they did to stop doctors revenues. same concept. saving money.

The biggest problem I have with generics is that they are often the size of a horse pill and make it difficult for me to swallow. But then I haven't had to have any medications for at least a couple of years :) (touch wood). Trying to remember when I last went to the doctor.

The cost of one script I have has fallen from $36 to $11 in recent months as it went generic. Am happy with generic for something I've been taking for a while. But not for new scripts.

That is very impressive. Until Feb I was the same. Now MrP simply asks each Sunday - "any Drs visits this week?"

Keep on touching wood - I was pretty arrogant about my lack of doctor's visits as well, but in the last 8 weeks, I have had a sprained ankle, a freckle cut off for biopsy and my hypertension problems (hopefully that's my 3).

Daughter born 2.49kg and today is only 2.2kg. Doctor is concerned. Wife has to go back Sunday.

Eat more even if it's cough and forget this "mai aroy" rubbish. Sticky rice and pork skewers with very little decent meat is not a meal. I can't seem to get my point across.
