General Medical issues thread

Thanks drron. Chiang Mai Ram is the most expensive hospital in Chiang Mai.

My wife chose Maharaj hospital which contains the Sriphat medical center which is associated with IVF clinic we were using.

Apparently operation is now the only option as the blockage is severe and they have not been able to clear blockage. They suspect the blockage is related to the hemorrhaging my wife was experiencing.

Don't quite understand but they have discovered something in my wife's blood and they have advised that she cannot breastfeed for 2-3 weeks so only formula for baby. Wife has no energy. She's on morphine injections every 6 hours but that only partially numbs the pain. Nurses are feeding baby every couple of hours.

I asked her why she didn't have operation yesterday and she's scared of having another operation. Think she's also worried about the money and wants me to agree. I said to her to forget about the money and get better as she needs to take care of our baby.

And to make things worse the SIN-BKK flight arrived a little early and I could try fly forward and make the 10:00am BKK-CNX flight instead of the 12:30pm flight I had booked but only 1 out 2 bags arrived and they had my name on a sign.  How can you possibly load one bag only? Had to file a report which means I missed check-in tor earlier flight.

The curse continues multiple times a day now. And this headache is driving me nuts.

Ensuring the best quality medical treatment at this time seems the best thing to do and may mean faster recovery and less issues down the track.

Health care is one area (maybe the only area) I never worry about the costs. To mitigate this I always take out the best quality travel insurance if travelling.

Very nice of you to post on flyertalk drron. :p

It's never that easy. It's not just cost. There's also history.

Kulapat clinic is one of the best in Chiang Mai and Maharaj hospital is also a good hospital.

Not sure what happened here and this being Thailand never likely to find out. This was a complicated pregnancy. The clinics look after too many people. Unless my wife went there really early on a Sunday morning she could get number 46 in queue. There were times she snuck in to get to get number 6 or number 14. Doctor is there only half day. Spends 10-15 minutes max with each patient.

Public hospitals are free but you could spend hours if not days before you are seen.

Maybe its time to head to Bangkok? Or attend the Hospital drron suggested? Seems like her medical needs aren't being met.

I know its not much help but remind yourself that bills will always get paid, eventually. Mum and bub are the most important thing so get her the treatment she needs and the rest you will work out, somehow.

This will pass and you will be home with your little family soon, thats all that matters.

Sorry I cant offer much else

It's not that simple. Just saying.
Agreed it may not be a simple thing to change hospitals at this stage. Your wife may not be in a fit state to travel and it is probably unlikely that they will discharge her or facilitate a move to another hospital especially one where she does not have a medical history.
Hope the doctors come good and can sort this out.

Fingers and toes crossed that they can find out exactly what the problem is and she will back on the road to recovery very soon.
From the little I understand there is blockage in the bladder/ureter that can only be fixed with operation. She overcame her fear when I spoke with her this morning and she was in good sprits when she saw me. We will know in about 4 hours.

Oh and I was surprised to see her mum there. She made the trek from the village earlier today but se is still sick.

Baby is gorgeous. All the nurses love her and take turns feeding her. Still loves sleeping.

Boy it was strange walking into hotel room just now. Eerie feeling. Difficult to describe.

A nervous wait then JohnK. Lots of people thinking about you in Oz. Might be as easy as a stone in the way.

JohnK, please keep us updated - we are all wishing for the best for you three.

(good to hear the little one is being fussed over by the staff. As I said, make sure you get all the cuddles in yourself!)

I don't know you JohnK, except by your postings on here. ....

Just wanted to say that, along with many others on here, i wish you and your family all the best for the future, and a speedy recovery for your good wife.

Feeling about 80% better today. Food is still a bit of a challenge and have a funny taste in my mouth (not sure if you'd call it metallic or not) which I assume is due to the tablets, but all other functions have gotten closer to normality. Off to Ollantaytambo today, Aguas Calientes tomorrow and then Machu Picchu on Wednesday. Disappointed to have missed Chinchero & Pisac yesterday, but you've gotta take the good with the bad! Only ended up with about 3 days downtime in the end, so could have been worse. :)

Wife's back from operating room. It would appear operation is a success as the kidney pain has gone. Her attitude has changed as well.

I'll spend the night in hospital and go back to hotel in morning for breakfast.

Baby as gorgeous as ever. The nurses have fallen in love her and come and feed her on their breaks.

That's wonderful news. Best wishes to the rest of the family and hope for a full recovery soon!
