General Medical issues thread

It's easier to write scripts for hospital discharge if filled in the hospital as it's copied off the med chart but I also give out scripts that can be filled outside of hospital. Some like it others don't.
I would much prefer to get it outside hospital, than to wait in hospital.

Need to find a way to lose weight myself without exercise or shakes. Did so well yesterday with first 2 meals less than 1000 calories. Then boiled cauliflower and then floodgates opened. Snack after snack and I tried hard to limit the calories in the snacks. It's very difficult.

It is only difficult because you simply lack the gonads to keep yourself alive.
A spoonful of cement , stop eating and most of your problems will evaporate.
Stay the present course and you will quickly be pushing daisies , your daughter will manage without you, kids are very fatalistic...

So I have to use ”the“ cream. I’m sure my previous doc would have frozen these spots.

Not looking forward to it at all, we will be away at the end of November so I’m loathe to use it on my face until we get home, arms and legs I can deal with. Not showing the markings on my face!

I feel your pain @Cossie !
This year tackled right check first early April, thought that had me looking "gorgeous" 😎 !!
Staying out of the sun was a challenge, walks were before 7am!

Once done, decolletage was next - really bad - almost allergic response, itchy as all get out, on antihistamines etc.
Had to take a 2 week break in between- but don't let that put you off.
We are all paying for the sins of our past, good luck with it 🤗

LOL @tgh.

You are of course right. I could eat lettuce leaves for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I should eventually lose some weight.

But I think my version of events has much more merit than any professional.

When I was ~120kg a leading NSW endocrinologist assured me I was consuming 2700+ calories per day. I said bull-da-dash. You're wrong. You don't know what you're talking about. That was $270 down the drain. So now I'm 140+ kg I'm consuming 3000+ calories per day? No I'm not. That is certain.

When I dieted in 2016 I weighed everything and counted every single calorie I consumed. If the average daily intake was 1800+ calories then there was no weight loss. Surely if I maintaining 120 kg on 2700+ calories then I should lose weight on 1800 calories? Nope. No weight loss. The only weight loss came when I was consuming between 1200-1500 calories/day. And that was minimal weight loss. How long do you think it's possible to sustain that diet?

So there are other factors in play that need to be considered? The average adult male consumes 2200 calories per day and I cannot lose weight consuming 1800 calories per day. Well stuff me for not caring and not trying at all. Very easy to judge when you have no idea what you are judging.

I dropped 10kg whilst in hospital. Breakfast- Wheatbix and milk, toast butter and vegemite, tea with milk. Fruit for later. Lunch and Dinner - HUGE bowl of salad with dressing and chicken breast on top. Small bread roll. Weight just fell off me. Just cut out most fats and carbs, the weight loss will happen.
I'll revert to a similar regime once I am feeling normal again.

I discovered after many attempts that I can only lose weight via diet and exercise.

Didn’t follow anyone’s diet plan, just did what Ive been told countless times to do.

Diet including lots of fruit and drinks of water to keep me filled up and just sensible things for dinner. No fatty stuff, avoid carbohydrates like potato and pasta. Oily fish. No booze. I used cauliflower rice a lot.

Signed up to a gym aged 60 because I knew if I was paying for something I would use it. Started very slowly, very mildly and was able to slowly work up to a decent workout of over 60 mins, 4x week. Trick was not to be discouraged after no noticeable change in the first few weeks. Kept going and then the weight started coming off and in the end it was coming off very quickly. I dropped 12kg more than my GP ssid would be my ideal weight.

Well, after my fall 15 months ago where I fractured my skull and had a bleed on the brain, my cardiologist signed me off today as being OK in the heart department, having worn a heart bug for the last month or so (among other things) and checking out OK.

However, in the brain department, there is still a little way to go, with a few micro bleeds remaining (according to the latest MRI scan). My neurologist has reviewed all the data and is quite happy with my progress (!) and with the prescribed medication believes that I should be OK to drive within the next month or two.

Moral of the story is try not to fall down a flight of concrete steps...

Oh that sounds terrible. Glad you are on the mend now.

Oh dear, what an ordeal you have been through.
Glad to hear you are on the mend.

I like to think it was my mother’s fault, her being a red head! :)

To make it a two rat study… my mother was also a (fiesty) redhead.
As a youngster I suffered blue eyes blonde hair and was almost permanently burned black from living outdoors.
I am still heavily tanned , use no sunscreen and have had maybe 5 little bcc's removed over the years….

Blame Mum eh @Cossie !!

Mine was from student days.
On night duty, we would set our alarm to wake at High Noon and sit on a hot tin roof lathered in baby/ coconut oil - a fond memory recalled at our recent 50 year reunion- with faded Kodak photos to prove it!

Can take a long time, a girl that was in my year at high school (Narrabundah High), spent a few years as a youngster in Fiji. Eventually developed a melanoma on the back of one leg.

A long time later it spread right through her body and unfortunately she died from it.

As she was an author, her publisher talked her into writing a book, which I bought, read a little bit, but it far too confronting.

Had my second Cataract done yesterday. Now trying to read this without glasses, which I have worn for 20 years. Still a bit bleary and having drops 4 times a day for the next month is a PITA. Things are very glary and I'm wearing sunglasses nearly all day.
Should improve on a daily basis.
Don't know why I didn't do it years ago.

I'm about 6 weeks out now and glariness is much better but I still wear sunglasses outside. All the time. I've given all my spare glasses away to charity now. So many of them....The drops - three types four times a day for a week, then it's just one of the steroi_ drops for the full four weeks four times a day. Because I got an eye infection during this process I then had to have antibiotic eye drops every two hours for 6 days then two antibiotics four times a day for two weeks. I'm done and dusted now. The freedom of just being able to pick something up and read it without rummaging for glasses is great.
