Actually I have a long term cough atm. You know how people give you " the look " if you cough in the supermarket aisle, like " what are you here with a cough that could kill a horse " !!!
Hence I haven't been out of the house since we got home.
I am now feeling "normal - ish " and no cough !! so heading out for lunch tomorrow !!

Has been about 4 weeks for me, so I feel the sentiment. Like you, I'm now pretty much "good to go", but then I'm heading down to Ethiopia and Madagascar again on Thursday so probably will end up with something else, again ...

Swmbo ( who has been unwell) asked the gp about RSV vaccination.
The advice was that the vaccine was expensive , had questionable efficacy, and was not advised…..
I heard that on the radio today by a Vaccination person who was very vocal during Covid. Seems like everyone is so focussed on Covid and flu and he said the Vaccination had only just been approved and so not supported yet by TGA. So expensive and likely required at least every two years. He talked a lot about RSV which is unusual. He talked about the handwashing yada yada none of which would have prevented me getting it.

I've been ill from similar recently and on my flight back to London I was coughing heavily nonstop for quite some time. The captain came back (this was just after doors closed) and said I was scaring people, I had to put on a mask on otherwise they'd remove me from the plane. That was with LH.

what’s that? I have some leftover from some surgery that I take very occasionally if something gets really painful and I really need to knock it on the head.
Makes me feel ... well, yuck.
Ketamine and fentanyl: When your surgeon comes to check on you it she looks like the original Bohemian Rhapsody vid. when it splits into 6 screens.

I got RSV in the Northern Territory last July.
I have never been so sick in my life. Could not sleep lying down had to sleep sitting up.
I coughed so much that I got really bad chest pains, sharp ins and needles. Could not breathe and coughed so much I was vomiting.
Did not know I had RSV at that stage. On night coughed , chest pains were so bad I said to my husband to tell my family I loved them if anything happened to me.
That was enough for him took me straight to Darwin hospital, they admitted me straight away, took blood tests (came back as RSV, no Covid)
Staff were wonder, put me on a drip and made me take 12 puffs of ventolin or something similar. Straight away. I am not an asthmatic but that ventolin was great and I used it for a few weeks as well as a steroi_.
Kept me in for a few days, aim was to get me home on my flight in a couple of days as I was no longer contagious.
I was very sick for 5 weeks before I started to get any energy back.
Best wishes to anyone who gets RSV like that.

Had this too at the tail end last January in the way back to Oz. Warm water and honey to keep throat moist. This was quietly brought by my SQ flight attendant and topped up or replaced periodically. You could try that for next time.

There’s also a cough medicine I got from the European pharmac_ that’s very effective as it works by calming the nerves. Not sold in Oz. Was so tempted to bring a bottle home ☺️

I did learn I couldn't be a heroi_ addict though. I knew opiods could clog you up but was surprised at how quickly it happens 🤣
Maybe ask the anesthetist other options 😀 I mention the ill feeling when it wears off and heart racing panic attack and getting clog up and they start offering other options. It’s come to the point I just ask for the other newer painkillers if possible, for all my procedures n operations.

I also get very blocked up after morphine injections - kidney stones. Ketamine was given to me once, kidney stones again, and while it knocked out the pain long enough for the the stone to pass when it was wearing off I found it very unpleasant. I felt very depressed and miserable plus doing a good effort at talking in tongues.

Yes. Described it perfectly. At one time I tried sleeping on my stomach so I could get relief as that's what I'd heard they did with Covid patients, but just couldn't. So I slept in a chair. Used ventolin. I don't get asthma but did this time. I had to try eat separate from others because if I started coughing it was game over. Currently I've got sore ribs from coughing so much but seems better today. I didn't want to go back to hospital because that's where I'd caught it. But husband was on the verge. I checked my O2 with the meter, and it got down to 92. I tried hard to have deep breathes to try improve it. It got back to 95 after a few hours so presumed it was going to be ok. I asked MrP to check his later assuming maybe the device was faulty. It wasnt, his was 98.

Many people would have difficulty as an IV drug addict because they don't have any veins.

My best was 9 goes in a Drs wife...
Funny you mention veins. When the anesthetist was looking at my arm he asked if I had regular blood tests and I said nah, I've just done about fifty plasma donations. Pretty diplomatic way to question the scarring from repeated injections in the same spot.

I knew what he was on about and almost made a joke about it making shooting up annoying but the thought of them cancelling the surgery and, more importantly, being out of pocket another few grand to reschedule made me shut up 😂

My old man used to work for the ambulance service (in a non medical role) and some of the stories the ambos had of where long term users would resort to finding a vein were painful to even think about, especially as a male 🫣

You need to elaborate on that comment😂
Oh you are naughty @MARTINE.

Back to RSV. I have now had it twice that I know off. Up until Covid it was basically only known in Children's wards and during flu outbreaks as the PCR for flu usually also does RSV , Parainfluenza and HMPV. In fact my first diagnosis was when I was in charge medically of a Flu ward and developed a cough so I was swabbed. Less than half an hour was told you have RSV so put a mask back on and get back to work. The cough only lasted 2 days and I felt well.
The second time was 2 weeks ago courtesy of Mrsdrron. Cough lasted a week but otherwise felt well apart from my sciatica.

The people who should have the RSV vaccine are children under 2 and particularly infants in their first 6 months. There are deaths every year from RSV in those age groups. To their credit the WA and QLD Governments make it available and free to all under 2s. NSW does it for medically at risk children. The other states do diddly squat.

Does anyone know of a vitamin deficiency-related reason why my gums would be sensitive? Or a supplement that can help?

I've had a cold for 5 weeks!! Much mucous, I've gone through 3 bottles of cough syrup, proper pseudoephedrine, nasal spray... I'm now on prescription nasal spray and a nasal cleanser. Though getting incrementally better each day, my gums are yuk from all the yuk things going in and out (TMI!).

I rarely get sick, once every 5 years or so, and I've only ever taken antibiotics twice in my life, so I'm being a big sook about not feeling good.
