General Medical issues thread

It's a two week plus recovery if it gets you bad. Not everyone gets it like that. I'm still coughing but not to the point of, well, fill in the dots, but I do get breathless still and sometimes can't finish a conversation. And then there's the fatigue. Because you also can't sleep. Plus, you make all these moaning noises 😳 I'm on day 18. About 80%.
My wife has been quite bad for around 5 weeks now. We've not had it tested but is more than likely RSV that she more than likely picked up with the last hospital stint end April/early May. She did mention one of the older ladies was coughing non-stop.

So wife was been coughing badly, almost uncontrollably. Painful, fairly dry, constantly tired. She'll see GP tomorrow. We're off to Thailand in 2 weeks.

I thought RSV has a distinct 'wet' cough from all the fluid build up in the lungs and heavily congested sinuses.

Well, weighed myself today. Lost four kilos. And wasn't overweight to begin with. I did want to lose a kilo before we leave in a couple of weeks. But didn't expect that.

Maxolon did nothing for me. I was using restavit and zofran and still puking half hourly all night 😒
Morning sickness seems like such an anti evolutionary mechanism for survival of the species.

It's certainly put me off having any more kids, it was awful the first time and even worse the second. No way I could manage that while parenting two kids.

In just under two weeks. I haven't coughed today. My greatest fear was getting hassled on the flight and getting into bother in Bali, our first stop because reasonably, they are obsessed with any respiratory things.

I had a nagging cough on my flight from Santiago to Sydney leftover from something I caught on my cruise. It wasn’t as dreadful as what you’ve had and I don’t think it was RSV but just very annoying and possibly concerning those around me.

So on the flight I introduced myself to the passengers around me, told them that I had a cough, assured them that I was not contagious and I told the FAs as well. Not sure if it completely alleviated any concern but I think it was Ok.

Lots of coughing into the pillow!

Au contraire.

Survival of the fittest or in this case the ones with the least nausea?. So according to Darwin, the ones with the most nausea get bred out eventually?
I was reading an interesting book recently about anthropological evolution from a female perspective. Author argued that it was to avoid poisonous plants during early foetal development .

You were pretty unwell from what I recall.

Well that’s Darwinian theory. But given the number of women who get prolonged morning sickness then it’s a wipe out! 😱

But how would the author know that? :)

The progress in understanding our evolution via DNA study seems spectacular to this layman.
It seems that every week I read about another milestone paper.

So wife is negative for Covid-19 and negative for Other Viruses. Interesting to see what the doctor will say.

Comes out of hospital early May with what appears to be cold and a bad cough. The cold went but cough remained. And this went on for 3 weeks.

Then picks up what appears to be a new cold and cough remained. This has been going on for about 12 days now so she's gone to see doctor.

I wonder if this is bacterial but she was on antibiotics for the 4th UTI/pyelomelitis for 3 weeks in May + Augmentin for another week.

Weakened immune system?

- At least 4 colds this year, the one in Thailand beginning of year was quite bad and knocked her out
- At least 4 UTI infections and a cough that does not disappear
- High levels of stress and fatigue
- Complaints of gut/bowel discomfort

I don't think it's lupus but something is not right. Supposed to see Urologist today but she's coughing and runny nose. She's under extreme stress.

Chemo cream (Flourouracil) update; Just finished week 3. It is much less a horror treatment than I envisaged. I have seen people undergoing treatment with angry red skin across their foreheads etc., and I was expecting this across my scalp. I am applying cream over the entire scalp where you'd expect hair thinning. I've shaved my head to make it less messy and perhaps more effective. The cream seems to work affecting only the areas that are actually skin cancer or solar keratosis and I have lots of medication reaction in way of red spots and a couple of coin size open sores but nothing I would say is angry and inflamed. I think this is because I have kept the sun (UV rays) off my head completely. I wear the lycra skull-cap I showed in an earlier post with a peaked cap over it when I go outside. It is really very manageable and I am surprised as I was instructed to stop application and rest for a week before resuming should it get too angry, but that has not happened. Just passing on my experience should anyone else need to do the same treatment.

Well it was eventually going to happen.

I've finally succumbed to the cough my wife/daughter have had. It started about 2 days ago and it appears to be worse on me than either of them. At times I'm struggling to breathe and my larynx/pharynx feels full and sort of stuck when I try to cough which throws me into a panic.

My wife was getting really angry with me when I was telling her don't get too close to me. Then when her cough got worse she stayed in the bedroom and my daughter was spending more time closer to me and they've now managed to share it with me.

Don't ever assume that just because many people get through something easily that it's not going to affect others more seriously. I was getting panic attacks reading what others have been posting here about nagging coughs and RSV. Mine is probably not RSV but I hate being sick. This is why I try to avoid close contact with others and the main reason I still wear a mask.

We're flying to SYD in 7 days and then Thailand 2 days after. I hope we're not still feeling this way.

Well I have had my Nerve Roof injection and 2 days later no sciatica. Though some pain and tenderness around the injection site which I presume is a haematoma being on Xarelto. Not stopping me walking and got to 10000 steps yesterday.

You are on Xarelto too?

Sounds a bit like mine, to the extent I didn't think it was working. But it did.
