Gift Cards at Supermarkets

The verifone terminals do not work with these eftpos cards apparently.

I had another "Invalid Date" scenario today. This time it was at the local chemist, and sure enough, it was a Verifone terminal, and like the hairdresser on Saturday, also with Bendigo Bank. I didn't take much notice of the hairdresser's terminal at the time, but I seem to recall that it looked a lot like the chemist's, so probably a Verifone as well.

This is how it goes..

many people on the weekend went to aus post used the $88 card on mutiple transactions very quickly... x 100000 people.

aus post sees this and go wtf. omgomgomg fraud frad fraud fradu.. sends verifone email and they now have stopped it. or the other way around but either way it's done.

Safe to say every good offer gets shayne'd.

Just came back from 3 local post office, they all have verifone terminals. $88 EFTPOS card is working, I just used 10 cards for ATO BAS.

do these blanket bans last forever? Or if we hold our card for a few months they'll open it back up again?

...
This is exactly like the whole Westfield XS fiasco!

Exactly. This has all been done before. AusPost refusing EFTPOS gift cards isn't new - the ban has been in place for quite a while now.

Some of you may even find out the hard way when you do what AusPost has told you not to, and they ask you to leave and not to come back, as has been found out by members in previous iterations.

As Dr Ralph has calmly said, plenty of other places you can purchase goods/services via EFTPOS.

Its not worth the time to do these promotions using these $88 cards...
Westfield XS was good because you could buy $1000

$995 + $4.95 (Fee) or if you wanna just get the $2.95 fee one it is the same.

Dont do too many at the same time Westfield will deny you purchases and dont try splitting cards LOLLOL

It is a shame when an exceptionally good offer opens the floodgates and scuppers a lesser but still lucrative points-earning strategy
However, arguing over loopholes or 'unfairness' never seems to get anywhere-time to adapt and find new opportunities

Well living in Australia you must do what you can to make the best of things, especially when deals come on. And for those on low or coughpy incomes, and for those on high incomes.

Just tried to pay some bills at the local PO (which I'm on very good terms with the guy who runs it) and was told they received a memo to say "do not accept gift cards as a payment form for bills, period." He said they didn't give a reason and he thinks it's silly, but that was the directive.

Doodz. So the eftpos card still working or not at self serve post office ?

No problems today over the counter paying a water bill with 4 x $88 EFTPOS cards.

Maybe they didnt read the memo?
Seems if you get the right person, you might still be able to use them anyway. SA Water allows you to pay at the PO, CBD or any CBA branch with no fee so people could use them there. My council appears to do PO as well as the council office with all payment types.

People say it's not worth the time for the discount (5% off) but it's 5% off thousands of dollars and for me that's worth the extra minute or so it takes to use them if allowed.

Picked up another 10 today (still masses left at wow near my work). Will use them over time to buy every day stuff. Going to try to pay a parking fine and some rates at council offices this week (instead of PO).

since there will be surcharge to pay bills at postoffice, i guess the card will be best use for everyday purchase or anywhere that dont accept amex..

Quick question guys - been following the thread, been overseas and just got back home. I know tomorrow is the last day for the $88 gc (I checked my woolies and plenty there), I've got the dans offer on multiple amex's.....I wanted to ask/check, is there anyway to purchase discounted dan's cards w AMEX that will trigger the AMEX offer, thus double dipping? Or no dice?
