Gift Cards at Supermarkets

I guess this is similar but not the same as tot hte 0.5 vs 2ppd paypal on explorer debate,

doesnt hte T/cs say supermarket spend, it could be argued that "EVERYDAY GIFT CARD 6673 BELLA VISTA" is not a supermarket but a gift card producing service,

you can argue this and they may give you a one time manual adjustment, but im hoping like hell it will be permanently adjusted

Yeah, it may be hard to argue that the online gift card purchases should be given 3PP. If they've just changed the category of that then there is nothing we can really do.
The hope is that there is a glitch with the Edge card at the moment and that all transactions are going through at 1pp. That's why we need an in-store supermarket transaction.

I just called AmEx.

The operator checked, then came back and said that, we are buying gift cards (I told her the internet gone into meltdown but I did not say what web site), we are not buying rubbish inside a supermarket, so someone at the back end had probably 'closed the business gap'. I was given the bonus per Edge card, but she said that this is the last time I would get bonus points doing this.

I did insert my Edge card into EFTPOS last night at Woolworths supermarket. Let's see what I get tomorrow morning when it flows through.

did you speak to someone in the phillipines or australia?

Definitely.

I haven't looked, but I would foresee a clause like this in the contract somewhere:

'AMEX reserves the right to make changes to the terms of their offer without prior notice to the customer.'

What's on the website may not be contractually binding. Could be considered an invitation to treat, therefore not part of the contract.

But this is all moot. Once someone confirms a purchase made directly at a store you'll know if it's a deliberate change or a mistake.

I guess you didn't pick on my little lawyer jab. Your response perfectly reflects it. I'm not a lawyer but even I know that companies can't get away with not providing the benefits they have advertised for years, even if the T&Cs say so.
At least your last sentence shows you actually understand the real issue and all your other comments are just pointless distractions.

Thanks for that, can you report back on how the transaction posts. I was going to go to make a test purchase this afternoon at woollies but the transaction probably wouldn't have posted until Wednesday at the earliest.
