Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Can't find any $100 Coles gift Mastercards with current Flybuys promotion of 2,000 bonus points.
There's still the $5 activation fee and I think you can only get one lot of 2000 points per account, so I doubt there'd be much hoarding going on.

I saw some yesterday (in CBR) but opted for the $50 "for him" GC instead. 2000 points posted already.

So it is only for one lot of 2000 FB of either (For ..... OR Coles MC) and not 2000 +2000 if you bought a $50 For... and a Coles MC?

If so makes the $50 For... the better option as long as you can use it at one of the businesses.

If I buy 3 x $100 cards then I get $10 back and only pay $5 to activate the $300 which I can then use to pay Medibank Private as they don't accept Amex.

Correct. So with the $10 Flybuys cashback I only pay $5 for $300 worth of gift cards. Happy to pay the $5 for Medibank Private premium.
Doesnt Mrs K (and other over 16 family) have a Flybuys card?

They do but after my experience with spend targets increasing exponentially thanks to gift card purchases I won't be doing same to wifes account. I should have signed up dad, mum and brother to Flybuys as well.

P.S. I did find my small stash of Coles gift Mastercards in office draw. Phew.

Yep good play, although it translates into a 1.6% fee to use your Amex at 3 ppd. I hope you found some cards. I might look into multiple flybuys accounts as suggested.

For mine, it's a PITA to pay those types of bills in $100 increments. No pain no gain.....I suppose.

To be honest, with the demise of egc to vs1, I can't see a point in going through gift cards for awards point these days. The way I see it, I value amex ascent = krisflyer miles. So to compare other master/visa rewards, I convert them to krisflyer value. For non amex merchant, I find I always get better value going through st george than any gift card route I can find.

I just checked and the cards I found have expiry of 09/2018 so I must have had them for 3 years?

You can't play this game nicely.

It was definitely worth buying vs1 with an amex when woolworths had the promotion where the fee was waived (no $5.95 fee payable). However for the most part, I am inclined to agree with you.
