Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Had a win last night. Walked into JB Hi-Fi and bought a new Samsung LED for $1600, and asked the sales rep if they accepted multiple gift cards. Upon confirmation I went to the Coles in the same centre, bought 10 x $100 cards and 12 x $50 cards (they ran out of $100 cards!) and went back to JB to pay for the TV. The girl behind the counter had a laugh, especially at the docket which was 1.5m long! Saved on the outrageous 2.5% Amex surcharge by JB and scored a few bonus Amex points whilst I was at it.

Nice ;) I have thought about doing it that way too but then if I paid with my credit card (as with many other Platinum or above cards) they have some extended warranty so I guess I'd take the warranty, just in case, versus the points.

However, I would have thought that as long as you kept the Coles/WoW docket showing the purchase of giftcards and then subsequent use of giftcards for JB purchase would be enough to establish the AMEX warranty.

Has anyone used the Member Gift Cards website lately? Shows no products for me...

With the rewards company I use, my wish cards used to get processed through the membergiftcards website but on my last purchase a few days ago they changed it and it now goes through the everydaygiftcards website. Sadly no more Plat Edge bonus. :(

I was just going to comment on this, bought 2X $200 cards for the missus to use for petrol and only got the 380 points ;/

Was hoping it was a mistake but it appears not :(

I'm using the Entertainment Book's link to purchase my Wish Cards. Last time I bought it was two weeks ago and went through the membersgiftcard website. After reading your post I tried it again and now it goes through the everydaygiftcards.com.au website. Seems like no more 3x platinum edge points for me either :(

....and since the introduction of the e-Gift card they are now charging for postage for plastic cards with registered post $5.50 when it used to be free.

thats a deal-breaker for me. why bother. might as well buy the woolie and coles-equivalent gift card at shop. at least x3 points at petrol station. Better yet, get the visa prepaid cards so it's x3 everything. (ATO bill? lol)

Guess i'll give this a go.

Just ordered a $250 GC via membership giftcards through RACV. Will report on whether I get the 3x points.

Some good news, there's a message up now on the Entertainment Book site:

"PLEASE NOTE: The WISH Gift Card portal refers to a postage cost for delivery of traditional plastic or "Classic" Gift Cards, however this fee has been waived for Entertainment™ Members."

It may have been there all along and I missed it but I would think that it's a new addition after complaints.

Bah no triple points and I ordered Big W cards.

Had a shocker!

I never go near a Big W but if I pass one may have to try and buy Wish cardd with them..otherwise Ebay them off :/

Damn I got caught out too with a $500 GC. I've just made a purchase with the RACV link and hopefully the members site stays at 3x.

Ouch, hope you didn't buy too many.

I don't believe you can buy wish cards with Big W cards unfortunately.

Best bet may be to buy something (say ipad) and return it, with some luck you'll receive a returns card that is usable at woolies.

Edit:

Actually might be a problem, seems like store gift cards can be used across any stores in the ww group?

Try using the Big W gift cards at Woolworths before you do anything else with them. I've used Big W cards at Woolworths successfully before so unless they've changed the rules you should be okay. Sorry for not mentioning this sooner.
