Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Racq is classed as a supermarket? Afaik raa don't accept Amex.
RACQ membership allows members to purchase Wish Cards at 5% discount from Everyday Gift Cards, which is a division of Woolworth Money, and if purchased using an Amex card the purchase is treated as being from a major supermarket for bonus points purposes on Amex Platinum Edge cards.

I bought at discount via Entertainment Book site today with the Plat Edge and know that's recognised as WW because I had registered for the $5 back on $20 spend at WW offer and that came through right after my giftcard purchase!

The local champion is at my local Coles, so when I buy at Coles I get the normal supermarket 3 points plus additional 1. If I value at $0.05 per point this gives me a 20% return per $ spent on groceries, petrol (cause I buy Coles Myer gift cards), booze (again the Coles Myer gift cards) and Restaurants (gift card).
I am trying to get together in the next year another 200k of frequent flyer points so that I can take the wife to Paris for our wedding anniversary. The above should give me 100k plus MR with Amex in the year.
If I can add my ATO bill in via purchasing visa gift cards the following is my estimate:
Buy $200 of visa every week from Coles (800 MR points at cost of $11.90 ). Drip feed the ATO at $796.66 every 4 weeks (ATO visa card cost is 0.42%). Therefore for four weeks get 3200 MR points at a cost of $50.94, works out at $0.016 per point.
If I paid my ATO by Amex I am charged at 1.45% and only make 0.5 MR points per $. So for $800 it costs me $11.60 fees for 400 points (= $0.029 per point).
I can also use these visa cards to pay my rates, insurances and utilities.

Can anyone see any failings in my logic here. By the way I am drinking a cup of coffee using the trial visa card I bought yesterday and enjoying it while dreaming of Paris lol.

5c PP is too high.... Try to find the FlightCentre prepaid visa at Coles as it is $150 for $6.95 fee so better value than the $100 for $5.95... I bought them *a lot* back when they were doing targeted $10-$20 discount for spending $100 on a shop.... created a nice loop, free money and points :) They seem to have shut that down now... wonder if it was me :P

You can also check out the Vpay gift cards at 7/11... I've only been able to get $300 ones, but it's advertised as $500 max.... flat $5.50 fee...

Shut down - you mean they changed the coding?

I hammered the Coles $20 off deal for 2-3 weeks before it was shut down:). They stopped counting Gift cards( non Coles ) as part of minimum spend required to get $20 off your next shop

Yep same here :) Glad someone else could take advantage...

I purchased 2 days ago through ent book link. Posted today as 3pt/$, now i can buy them for the missus to buy her petrol with so i get he 3p/$ on it as opposed to the big 0 i get currently :D

Do the staff ever question using a gift card to purchase a gift card for another business?
Sometimes if you use the 'service' desk they do. if you use a normal checkout and have one other item then I have never been questioned.

About the petrol purchase:

Make sure you do not forget to harvest the maximum possible.
And if you start a Myer One card you get pints on that for WoW petrol purchases - so the chase continues.

Then add the EDR, 4cpl discount and the cost/value equation for your points starts to look very healthy.

I have seen the flight center Visa card at Coles before. Can you use it outside of flight center for non Amex purchases?

Woolworths: Spend $50 on Select Gift Cards Get $10 off Your Next Shop EDR; starts on Wednesday (Includes Cards- Myer, Goodfood, Skype, Supercheap, FB, Ticketmaster, Hoyts, Bcf, citybeach). So buy up those gift cards guys and use your amex for 3 points per $. Don't know if you can buy just the cards, then go back round for your shop and get the $10 off. Will give it a try.

Well, if you buy "Myer & Coles Group" gift cards then you can use them at Coles. I use the discount on buying Coles cards to then buy Myer& Coles Group which then covers what a standard WoW card does (the equivalent that is) - Officeworks, KMart, Target & Coles Express.

Thanks for posting Johnno. They must have read my mind because I did a $50 gift card purchase just the other day to see if I'd get the $5 credit being offered only to be told it was only on groceries.
Yes you can buy your cards and then walk back in, shop and get your credit on you groceries. I had a $5 credit on the weekend so walked straight back in and bought the Vittoria 1kg coffee which was 50% off at $1 With the $5 credit, paid $10.

Are you saying that you buy the standard Coles card at a discount and then go and buy (ie swap) those for a Myer & Coles Group card in store? If so, do you get Flybuys too?

Don't think you can get coles group & myer cards at woolies though, just vanilla myer.

I get the impression that there was a typo and he meant buying a Myer card, then spending that on acquiring a M&CG card at the Myer store. Not sure whether that's possible, but it makes more sense since as you say, Woolies doesn't sell M&CG cards.

Can't do that either, myer won't let you buy a gift card with another gift card.
You can, in a roundabout way turn a coles group gift card into a myer gift card (via refund) but not the other way.

Sill puzzled by this. Why would you bother, is there something you can buy at Coles that you cannot buy at Woolies?

edit: Oh I see...shop at Target et al.
I'll just buy a bunch of WW $50 cards for redemption at Dans. ;)

Yes (purchase M&CG) no FLyBuys normally.
