Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Had a random one the other day... Bought a few bunnings cards at coles (which seems to be a weekly event of late...) and took them to bunnings to find they didn't work. The coles receipt said they were activated however they just didn't work.

Took a bit of a fight at Coles to get it fixed.

Will that pay 3 ppd though?

Not sure, I was proposing as an alternative to RACV who definitely DONT pay 3ppd. You can pay by Amex so you can get 1.5 ppd plus 5c off which is frankly IMO better than a straight 3ppd. If you want 3ppd AND 5c off cough up for the Entertainment Book!

Does ordering through the everydaygiftcards website (using entertainment book link) earn 3 point per dollar on AMEX for supermarket spend?

Purchased through Entertainment Book just last week and received 3ppd:
03/02/2015
EVERYDAY GIFT CARD 6673 AU
$950.00
2,850
0
2,850

AMEX no longer an option for buyng wishcards through RACV link. Only visa/mastercard. Not worth the hassle anymore without getting 3point/$ IMO.

Dammit, that sucks... but I still think 5% off is worth it... If you give up 5% discount for 3PPD you're 'buying' MR points for ~2.5CPP... too expensive ...

How did you prove it wasn't used? there is a scam (prob not here yet) where the physical cards are scanned by a reader prior then once you activate the card, they spend it for you, so by the time you use it, its $0. If its not activated properly thats a different matter.

brilliant! Just what I wanted to hear. :-)
looking to buy a new iPhone for mum at big w using the 5% discount and then also claiming 10% TRS for her when I go to NZ in a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy Coles gift cards at 5% off and earn 3 points per dollar on an AMEX card? I haven't bought Coles gift cards before but understand they can be bought at 5% off using perhaps the entertainment book? Does it earn 3 ppd though?

If I recall correctly as of June 1, 2014 Coles gift cards can no longer be purchased through the Entertainment Book. Prior to that you could only use VISA/Mastercard for Coles gift card purchases through the Entertainment Book.

That's never been possible at all as far as I'm aware (unless one of the car clubs used to accept Amex for walk-ins? That would've been more than 2 years ago if they did...) Coles has always been pretty restrictive with their gift card discount program.

Heck, it's hard to even find somewhere to get 5% off at all (taking postage into account), let alone 3ppd.

That's the hard part. No way to prove it.

Bunnings showed me the screen that said "gift card not sold" or something so it hadn't been used, however coles don't have access to the same system.

Just a little bit of a flaw if something doesn't work... There's not a great deal of protection

I was possible until mid last year I think but Entertainment book no longer sell Coles and most other places seem to be dryng up. The union shopper offer and others associated with the Ambassador card are all I am aware of but no 3ppd.

Yeah, that's right. I just meant that I don't recall it ever being possible to get BOTH the 5% discount and 3ppd through Amex simultaneously. None of the discount partners ever accepted Amex - not that they would've qualified as "supermarkets" anyway.

You can buy vpay cards from 7/11 and then use those gift cards to buy the coles/woolworths gift cards at 5% giving you what you are looking for .

Would buying a Vpay card be considered Cash advance?
7/11 gives 2ppd..so unless he wants Coles specifically or doesnt have/want ent book he would be better off just buying wish through them

Yes you can with the entertainment card 5% promo

Coles started removing discount programs as of last year, beginning with the Entertainment Book. Rumour has it that the ones remaining are only due to Coles honouring remaining contracts, and will cease once those contracts end.

I don't know if 7/11 charges any kind of fee for the vpay cards (if it's anything like the Visa/MC ones), but don't you only get 2ppd for 7/11 since it's included in the list of "petrol" retailers?

EDIT: beaten by Freddy :-P
