Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Following the last promotions by Coles and WoW they seem to have removed them from their stores. I thought the $20 WoW Dollars per $100 FC card (costing $105 due to 5% service fee for FC) was too good to last.

Coles had them with a slightly lower fee.

Now checked about 16 coles/WoW stores and no FC cards to be seen.

Pretty sure I saw some at Macquarie Centre the other day. I don't recall if it was at Coles or Woolworths. I think it was Woolworths.

I just got this email from Fly Buys - tripe FB Points next 2 days. Assuming it's targeted - implies the FB point rebate - implies on 10 $100 GCs, you'd get 13150 FB (3x 1 point/$ base points plus the 1000 per GC) - implying you'd get back more than the combiner cost of GC issue fee ($5/GC) plus the 0.42% ATO Card fee.

I've just bought some tonight to test out. Will be flying out in the morning so can't take advantage of this triple points offer. Hope some other members of this thread can take advantage of it tomorrow.

Can't seem to paste graphic from email :(

AGL accepts Coles Prepaid GC too-no surcharge

Can add HCF (no surcharge) and roam tolling (usual MC surcharge) to places accepting the coles prepaid

Lovin' the 'no cost' Coles prepaid MC purchased on the Plat Edge this week (with the FB rebate). Will be buying a few more this week.

Earned 3MR/$ spent at Ikea, for lunches, on the Saturday Lotto ($21M superdraw tonight) and to recharge my Smartrider (Perth's travel card). None of these take Amex and certainly not at 3MR/$.

I wish wish wish I got that offer.

Are you getting better than a 0.5cents per point redemption value on your flybuys points.

Have not redeemed anything yet as I am a FB noob. I am assuming 0.5c/pt as the base redemption value however.

Yes, that is the base rate for flybuys dollars and many other redemptions. Some people can get a better rate but only if specific redemptions are useful for them. The flybuys points offered in this promotion only just cover the purchase price of the mastercards based on this rate.

I just redeemed through Etihad for a short haul domestic flight which equated to 0.92c/pt and that wasn't even on a particularly expensive route (as in I'm sure it is easy to do better).

The thing is wider than that
... see posts above ..

Basically this card can be purchased "at $0 nett cost", at the same time earning CC points (over and above FB ). Then the card can be used to pay bills where the use of the original CC directly may have earned less CC points.

Mind you, at $100 max per transaction, this is no points goldmine.

A very short haul VA Y reward flight using EY is 6900pts. You have to redeem a minimum of 20000 FB points (for 8000 EY points) to purchase this flight (which also has a monetary value of $100 at Coles). With say ~$20 of taxes on top, any flight worth more than ~$120 ow will get you a better return (if you neglect the 1100pts in EY change and the foregone 1200 VA pts which would come from the revenue ticket). This is doable if purchased wisely.

A PER-East Coast J VA reward would not be a bad buy but it will take a lot of bonus promotions to get the 90000 FB points... Could chuck a few MR points that way as well.

Hi everyone
with this card , why is there a 5$ fee?
i can't see it in the small print . Can I just buy 10 of these and use my Amex ? (Don't care about flybuys ) thanks !

Why there is a $5 fee is unknown, but the fine print on the card includes it.

Thanks for that
I have an ancient flybuys card, need to call up - it would not let me activate it online
I don''t have the 3 velocity points per supermarket $ AMEX card as I am new to the game, so will miss out on this one. Otherwise I would of literally snapped up every single card I could of got my hands on!

I have been asked for ID a couple of times while buying the multiple Coles Giftcards. Has been a good promo-may have to reload my and mrsandye's Edges as nearing our credit limits. (This does add a bit of cost as would otherwise be offsetting the mortage but sums still very much in favour of buying)

I have been buying a maximum of two at a time and no issues yet. I am wondering when Amex will get suspicious though as this week my spend has been completely out of the ordinary. I have noticed that it has been getting harder to find 07/17 cards versus the older 05/17 cards....

Coles asked me for ID too when I bought my first batch last week. Apparently, policy is to ask for ID for transactions $1000 or above. Looks like they don't need to swipe each card individually to activate i - all done electronically. I get the impression that mass purchase might attract less attention at a self checkout in this case. Shame maximum card value is $100 - means maximizing this offer is only for the committed given how fiddly managing small value cards will be. Hope there are some GCs left when I get back in a week. I have good room in my Edge limit to do more.

Nothing for AMEX to be suspicious about.

You are spending money, they're getting their fees and effectively you have caused a greater reach for AMEX spending that would not exist otherwise.

Just confirming for all of you this is just showing up in fly buys under my offers ?
