Gift Cards at Supermarkets

I've also posted this on the David Jones/Amex thread.

Does anyone know if buying a Gift Card from Coles counts towards receiving reward points on the DJs/Amex card that can be converted to Qantas FF. For example if I was to buy a card for $1000, would this be counted as a supermarket purchase, as I believe that on the monthly statement it may not show up as a Coles purchase?

Yes you earn at the supermarket rate plus FB and Virgin SC in my experience.

Gift cards from coles and woolworths supermarkets physical stores shows up as a supermarket purchase on the Amex Edge card.

But the sad thing here is that we can't buy $1000 prepaid visa/mc cards at the supermarkets?

Ok I'm a bit confused.
So what gift cards can we buy at woolworths. There is talk of jbhifi etc. Csn anyone confirm. The website doesn't say anything.

Also. I've seen people else where getting discount of 5% off Coles branded gift cards consistently.

Is there any method that I'm not aware of

Just pop into WW and see what's there
Best to buy with an eWISH card from cashrewards or Entertainment Book etc

For Coles you can get 5% cards from sites such as ambassador card, nrma reward progs AGL etc. Catch is that you can usually only pay with MC/Visa and there is usually a 1% surcharge. I tend to skip the Coles cards in favour of the extra Edge points and easier life

Potential points maximising opportunity.......

In the latest Woolworths specials catalogue (running from tomorrow, 25/1/17, to 31/1/17) they're waving the $5.95 fee on a special $88 "the perfect gift card" EFTPOS card. It has a Chinese New Year design, but I couldn't care less what it looks like, if it allows me to effectively get 3ppd (Amex Platinum Edge) at places where I'd otherwise be using Visa and only getting 0.75ppd. :)

Of course, whether there's going to be any available in Canberra remains to be seen. :-|

Woo hoo! Happy CNY

Mindful that I have just made an explanation of the principles of the thread to SOPOOR, I personally don't think this particular offer needs a step-by-step guide repeated ad nauseam. Everything is in the thread.

If you use the Plat edge card. You will get 3 per dollar for all gift card purchases via cash rewards. And 5% discount.

A no Brainer for me

This has been detailed in these threads extensively, but includes AGL rewards and smart discounts for example.

Saw some in stock today at my local Woolworths. Planning on buying up big. Although it's not as good as the Perfect Gift card offering in 2016.
