Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Hmm these 88 cards don't behave like normal Eftpos cards. Had the same issue with their $100 cards.

They don't work at a particular terminal - but this terminal does accept the westfields red and XS cards...weird

More details would be great

It's a bendigo bank terminal, when I swipe it, it says invalid date.
The card is fine cause it works at other EFTPOS places.

It didnt work at Brookvale Aldi for me either-no biggie

managed to grab 18 from 2 woolies, and emptied my wishcard :-)
thinking whether to get more wishcard to grab more for the next few days...
too bad my platinum edge card not here yet, can only use amex explorer :-)

All woolies around me are sold out. One had about 200 sold, one 50 and 50.

Wish woolies would restock!

Same same.

Will be even more to keep track of given these new cards are only $88.

I might have mentioned it before, but if I haven't I recommend a very simple app on your phone to keep track of them. I know you're not much into phone apps, but for others that might be it could be good option for keeping track of the card balances. There probably heaps of options for tracking apps, I'm currently using Giftcardy (no affiliation in anyway), which doesn't require any unusual phone privileges (eg it doesn't need access to your contacts :-)) and is quite easy to use.

I'd be interested in others thoughts on easy ways to track remaining balances on these offers - it can be tricky.

I also get rid of any small remaining balances at one of our friendly supermarkets - although I wouldn't recommend Aldi - they seem to only allow one card transaction per "checkout session"

For the eGift cards, I keep two egift cards with me at all times each with $200.

I use one egift card and keep track of the balance with the last receipt. Cashier's/Self service easily accommodates two gift cards in a transaction when you need to crack open another.

The risk i guess is equal to losing $400 worth of cash.

However, this won't work on the 88 dollar cards eftpos as the receipts don't provide a balance.

I write on the back of the card how much is remaining. When I have a few of them I go to the supermarket and hold up the self-service aisle as I extract every last cent.

Same same.

I'm tempted to suggest you get an App Dr Ralph, but I've read your earlier posts on the subject. ;):)

My 2 locals yesterday were almost out before I got there so grabbed what was left from both.

This morning went back and yep, fully restocked :)

Remember they can take up to 24 hours to activate.

Been buying these cards for a while and they've always been activated instantly including the 12 x $88 I bought yesterday. I always check the balance online as soon as I get home to make sure I don't have any problems like the Bunnings gift cards activation problems some people are currently having problems with.

Went to my local last night, had around 80, so I got 10 and left some for others thinking I'd pop around this morning to get another 10 or so. Nope. All gone. This is what I get for not being too gluttonous.

I did the same thing, but because I only had around $900 in Wish cards, not because I care for others :rolleyes:Placed a large order for wish cards last night and hoping it comes through before my local WW is emptied. As a suggestion to those looking to move the cards on quickly, many people's council rates are due in the next few weeks. I have found 2 people who's rates I can pay, (paid mine with CGMC from Father's Day) which will be good to use around 40-45 of them.

FYI I have found large orders of WISH cards tend to require manual intervention and take a long time, especially if they are multiple cards (I waited around five days and they sent me a spreadsheet).

im assuming you are paying the council rates at the post office ?

Went to 4 of my local woolies, 3 haven't restocked since yesterday. 1 had only 5 left. I took em all.

I think they won't restock

And strata as well.

Although my council is dumb dumb. They charge surcharge for credit card payments over: Phone + in person + post office + direct debit. However, they also accept PayPal via post office, and guess what? PayPal takes AmEx. So, I am now using the most expensive payment method (commission for post office plus PayPal).

What do you guys do with the small remainer on the cards after use. I find lots of places don't really allow/like split payments, except your major supermarkets/petrol stations.

Agree, I tend to notice that. I tend to use self check out at Coles or Wow to clean these up. Aus Post also allow you to split multi transactions (recently used a wad of these cards to pay strata fees) and there's no reason these couldn't be low value transactions instead of $88 or $100. You just have to get a patient operator - I try to go when it's not busy for this reason.
