Thanks Coops for your full explanation. Now I've got it! I notice that most people are using Platinum Edge which gives 3:1 for purchases of the $88 card (if not their existing supply of discounted Wish cards.)
i use the Amex David Jones card which isn't often mentioned. Annual fee only $99 gives 3 Reward points per $ for supermarket and petrol station purchases. These convert at the rate of 1 Reward point x 0.75 for QFF (i.e. 2.25 points per $. Also 30,000 Reward points for joining and if you're lucky, a negotiated bonus of 5000 points for a supplementary card that is free for the first year.
A good entry card for someone who doesn't want to pay the high annual fee for other premium Amex cards. Referrals welcome .
