Righty-o, it's off we go on Day 1 of the 2012 GCC. Walking clothes, on. Pedo, on. (For me) dogs, check. Which way will we walk today - the longest route! Off I pound :D

Morning walk over - 6200 on the dial.

Fifa and I, with her husband, have just done an hour morning walk. In the rain too. Thanks Fifa for the great chat and walk.

Very noteworthy starts - now the challenge to keep the steps going during the day, particularly for us who are more desk bound.

Up to ~6600 steps, mostly through having to run around today (delivered a lecture on one side of campus, then training on a chiller system on the other side).

ummmmmmmm
i better move!

WOnder if i can set up a cradle for the computer this year on the bike

It was great to meet up today turtlemichael, and despite the weather I enjoyed the walk along the Esplanade.

We were joined by a couple of FTers today who are over here for Oz Fest #9 so we all hired a car and visited Mareeba and Atherton with walks to various waterfalls along the way so I clocked up over 16,000 steps today. Not bad for the first day:mrgreen:

Final for first day was a shade over 13,000 steps.

Not bad, but I've got a slight limp in my right foot for some odd reason :( Not good for the days ahead...

I always start with 6500 after my morning walk but struggle until I get home. Then I'm chasing around after kids and it always adds nicely. Ended up with 11K and posted them at 12.15am - noticed some teams already had full numbers posted (NZ'ers?).

Looking forward to punching out some big numbers this weekend in CBR.

Managed to surprise myself and post 15k for the first day. It is going to be tough to get near the 10k today due to it bucketing down in Melbourne.

Does anyone know if there is a swim/ride to steps equivalent? I might need to dust off the bike or go for a swim on the weekend to play catchup.

Yes, either are good and able to be counted - swimming, which I do from time to time, seems a multiple of steps (3x?)

I got 16.2K yesterday and was happy with that. But it is bucketing down here this morning in Cairns, like summer rain, and I think we are heading for record falls. It will be hard to get out and about today.

Indeed. There have been 100mls over night making it the wettest May day ever. And it keeps coming

Might have to shift my challenge to the "official" course in London. The weather there is sure better than the dismal cold and wet Melbourne has served up today. Just waiting for a let up in the clouds so I can hit the road..........Impressed by my team mates but now I feel the "heat" of knowing I dragged the team average down yesterday with my paltry 12,000 - pity the weights at the gym didn't translate into the expected no. of steps.......LOL

It's wet here in Brisbane, too.

How does everyone deal with step counts on a rainy day? Get a raincoat and put up with it?

I plan to go to the local shopping centre after work, I'm going to walk from one end to the other (probably a 10 minute walk) a few times.

I hate shopping centres but I'd rather suck it up then not make the 10k target on the 2nd day in!

Any other wet weather suggestions? A treadmill would obviously help :p

Just did a round of the building floors whilst waiting for my simulation to finish. Only added about another 1,500 steps, if that.

The sim hasn't finished, so I think I'll just leave it over the weekend (should finish well before then, but I ain't going to spend another 2 hours at work - the lights might turn off by then).
