Just found this thread.

Same here.

Have no idea how much I clock up walking the wife, kids & two Fox Terriers around the neighbourhood - however, I do swim around 11km's a week....if that counts?

If you need numbers for next year - I'm happy to jump in the deep end.

Swimming does count and those distances will count well. I've heard the comment a couple of times that people didn't know about this so we'll have to look to how to publicise it a bit better on AFF next time around.

I agree that better publicity would drag in many more participants, Michael. I only came across the GCC by chance so I'm guessing there would be many ppl like me, who routinely only check the main sections, who missed it. A post in "Open Discussion" would do the trick next year, I reckon.

I remember markis10 doing a plug previously; in fact, his plug came with an incentive in the form of a small contest.

Short of a forum message at the top, there's not really much better ways to do it. As regular members, we can't post up an alert thread / sticky on every common forum, as cross-posting is against the forum rules.

It's great that the thread is getting exposure so that whoever organises next year can keep you in mind.

Vetrade is actually on the Status Runners team this year, Daniel :) And you were only granted one year's R+R you know :)

I liked his post first, he's ours ;) (I'm happy to be captain again, now that I have worked out all the nuances of the web site - so long as they don't change it!)

I am also "North of BNE" (as are a number of our Mods) :D

Very cranky here at now having broken both pedometers, with the clip snapping off getting the thing on and off a belt. Resorted to a rubber band to hold it on until I buy a new one, one that will last. grrr.

That's how I've broken most of my other pedometers.

Doesn't work with many belts as they can be quite thick (meaning hard to get the pedometer on, harder to get it off without snapping), and the pedometer can also leave marks on the belt.

I prefer clip-on pedometers for this reason, though these are easier to slip off if you're in a rush (typical only for those carrying a bit of extra baggage, like me).

Woke up this morning with a sore right foot and resulting limp.

Getting even 10k today is going to be a challenge :(

I'm surprised I got to 11,900 today considering I was 6,500 leaving the house this morning and I sat with a client (at his work) and then his wife (at their home) for 4 hours today.

Looking forward to my trip to ADL next week, purposely chose to stay at the Hilton even though my first appts are in Hindmarsh Square (100m from the Crowne Plaza)...

I was pleased to get over 13000 yesterday despite the rain. I pulled on a raincoat, grabbed the brolly and just kept walking.

Some observations:
I have discovered I am the proud owner of 4 pedometers, not including the one out of the cornflakes packet. Getting erratic results, I now wear 2 pedometers at a time - at least one will give either a ridiculous result or be at least 2000 steps different from the other. Indoors walking is most likely to be inaccurate, and looser clothing also. ( and yes, I had previously calibrated my other 2)
Audiobooks are a good way to combine business with pleasure - you can mentally curl up with a good Steven king while heading out onto the street- definitely makes the time go faster.
Looking at the website (& doesn't it become addictive?) - how have the front runners got there in that time? By my calculation they would have to each do 28+ k / day . Do they spend all day walking, or lots jogging on a treadmill, or is it time to get out the bike?
My favourite team name for this week:

Rox I have been thinking about downloading a few audio books because I am getting so tired of my music collection. Do you have a download site you recommend?

I subscribe to Audible, which is a offshoot of Amazon. You can buy the books individually, or have a subscription of 1 or 2 books per month, which is better value if you are going to use them regularly. You can download them in several formats, the iPhone app version seems the most user friendly. I also download them onto pc and android and that doesn't seem as seamless as it used to be. Once you have bought a title , it is available on the website for you to download anytime.
I subscribe to the UK site (which is a pain as the apps automatically like to divert to the US site) as the copyright issues are similar to print books, and the first title I tried to download was't available to Australia from the US site. It is possible i'm missing out on other books from US but happy so far.
I think certain public libraries also lend them electronically too or you can physically go in and borrow them in CD version and copy them on to something, but that is coughbersome.

Thanks Rox. I had looked at Audible, but didn't want to lock into a subscription. I downloaded one this morning from itunes just for the ease of it, and it was a nice change during my walk this morning. Might have another look at Audible.

I was wary of subscribing for a long time but it became invaluable once I started having to drive At least once weekly on that boring road to Geelong. I get less speeding fines than with music too.

The Platinum Oners have a team photo now!
