GOOD NEWS! Krisflyer Miles to be extended until 2023 [previously April 2022]

I just got my dreaded email from Krisflyer yesterday. 400K expiring APR 2022. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't have a problem with that despite an overall dislike of schemes with expiry dates ... it is what it is though.

However, I really wonder if things are going to be anywhere close to normal enough for relaxed holiday type travel before they expire or even in 2022 as a whole?

I get that some people are flying about for work, but even though SIN and many others are 'open' for recreational flights, the hoops you have to jump through whilst well enough documented are not trivial and overall sounds like a stressful travel burden to me - not really relaxed and holiday like.

Looks like transfers to other schemes might be available at horrible conversion rates (golden circle and some others) - not really something normally on my radar, but anything really to stop the loss of -all- the value in such a big bag of points. Otherwise ... book a flight in late MAR 2022 for travel as late as possible in 2022 and then rebook that same flight (at a cost) for possible real flight in 2023???? Seems like a management gamble where (all)most everything could be lost anyway.

I also received that dreaded email yesterday - mine (and many others) were transferred to try and keep value when amex had their enhancement

Same email, 73k expiring April 22. I can use them for BNE-SIN-IST if the airlines release direct flights into BNE from SIN. I can do home quarantine if needed. I am looking at Jan or Feb latest.

Many in same boat (me too) because big balances moved over with the death of Amex MR as a good program….

So can you rebook a rewards flight even if the points have expired?

Just cancelled a couple of flights and have lost approx 60k miles as they expired in April/May 2021. Obviously they extended miles expiring in these months to Apr/May 2022. Has anyone had any luck having miles reinstated on the basis of these extensions?

To be clear - you straight up canceled and didn’t try to just change?

Yes just cancelled. Have nothing to change to at this stage.

Losing 60k miles is not the end of the world and it could have been much worse. But still feel like these should have been extended like they would have been had they been sitting in my account.

So now many of us find ourselves in a situation where our miles which expire in March 2022 are extended until September, while those with longer expiry dates such as April, May, June, July and August 2022 will expire months earlier than those from March 2022.
Does anyone other than Singapore Airlines officials see any logic in this?
Why won't all miles expiring after March be extended to September to at least maintain some semblance of fairness?

I had just short of 600K but have now used these for x2 J rewards AU-UK, EU-AU for late next year. I also have a back up plan EU-AU for myself if I cannot get flights with EK. I am now considering cancelling that booking let them sit in my account and pay for a one year extension if I wait to long and cancel later they will have moved past their original expiry date.

Can non status members par for an extension and if so how much shoes it cost?

Agree, it’s a hot mess

Yes same as status members but non status get a 6 month extension and status ones get 12 months for the same price.

It's on the SQ site but from memory it's 1200 miles per 10,000

When I had this situation a few years ago, because cancelling would mean I lost points they put the points on hold (from memory - not sure of exact terminology) until we decided what we wanted to change to and had until 12 months from booking date from memory to do so. Also when we changed it wasn’t just date but a total new destination and beyond original 12 month date.

Seemed like a great idea at the time.

Nothing in the media releases or terms that would indicate that miles used for existing bookings are excluded. Simply says miles expiring ……. The miles used for my booking fall into the category of miles expiring in the relevant period. Will be pursuing further.

Please report back. I'm likely to have the same issue.
