Good News! Pyjamas on (almost) all Qantas international flights in J!

You're right in that QF PJs left on the plane will be thrown in the bin.

'Wash and reuse' is a terrible idea. No matter how much you wash someone else's PJs before giving them to another passenger, it's still a used set and does not resonate well with a prestige brand.

That's why the ideal option is for everyone to take them home when offered.
Not sure why you had to give a wow to my comment about wearing second hand clothes. Did you not have hand me downs as a child or ever share washed clothes with friends

I don’t think it’s right for a premium national carrier to give its customers pyjamas that have been used by other people, no matter how good it has been washed.

I’m talking about taking them home and washing them and giving them away

They probably cost just a few $'s a set ex China in bulk purchase. Cheap to make.

Given Australia's high wage rates, to collect/consolidate/transport/wash/launder/re-pack/reconsolidate/re-transport will run at least $25 a pair in the real world - just to hand used PJ's, to premium pax - or donate.

Make no sense. :)

Arrived yesterday on Etihad long haul, and the sets they hand out appeared just one size option - HUGE. None on the 7-8 hour A380 LHR-AUH oddly, just the long 14 hour SYD 777 and 787 flights.

I did think.of that aspect after my earlier post. My thought then was well what if they had mych higher quality.ones as the "green" option?

However I DO get it's a non starter lol

Now THAT actually makes sense. Amenity kit too maybe?

I'd be very interested in opting out of pyjamas, amenity kit and/or onboard meal for a green tier leaf, points, or all of the above for a small serve of SC (3-5 per flight)

JAL has something along these lines with their meal skip option - it previously granted economy pax an amenity kit in return, now it donates to a program which feeds children in developing countries. I think it's a great option to give passengers and imagine it's quite popular on their 6-7 hour overnight red-eyes to/from SE Asia.

I think MH opted in to the no food on overnight flights to Adelaide but only for their benefit not rewarding the passenger.

Definitely need to offer something in return.

I think a green tier leaf is probably the most fitting (and least cost) to Qantas. Skipping an onboard meal or allowing one less amenity kit/pyjama set to be manufactured and carried on the flight is going to do a heck of a lot more for the environment than a 10 question quiz on the Qantas Wellbeing app.

I guess the latter requires no organisation nor effort nor monitoring from Qantas........

Here's a question, we were cleaning up to prepare for moving apartments, sorting through some airline PJ's. Now in that pile we came across some QF pyjamas - they seemed to be before the era of the kangaroo on the front - and here's the kicker - they are short sleeved and short legged (i.e "summer pyjamas") . These are great, I don't like long pyjamas.

Does anyone remember when they used to hand them out? It did cross my mind that perhaps they weren't handed out at all onboard, but instead were handed out as part of a delayed/missed connection/lost luggage pack many years ago.

I don't think they have ever been provided on board. While the standard first class offering has changed colour and design over the years, business has always been grey, although with the occasional special edition. And always long sleeved and legged!

Service recovery seems more likely!

Really? How many is "a lot" of kids/teens that are doing this? What's your data source for this? Or did you just make that one up?

The census, Daver6. We both missed the questions, obviously.

Yes. Lots of rough sleepers and homeless out there who would appreciate the gesture,

The pyjamas of a "premium national carrier" on the homeless? You will wash your mouth out!

Bizarrely, QF71 PER-SIN, daytime midday 5 hour flight got the PJs! Had stacks of them.
Will see what 72 does.
