Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

When all is said and done, I would semi-willingly sacrifice the better-priced options such as CBR-SYD-HBA for something like that.

But I wouldn't trust the current IT team to program their way out of a paper bag even if given clear instructions.

I don't understand what either if you said or why it's better lol

Well I wouldn't like the CBR-SYD-HBA option to be sacrificed (semi-willingly or otherwise), but then I live in CBR.

And I have no idea what that means.
Robbi doesn't know what was meant by "a "status credit cash add on" to classic redemptions" or its implications compared to the existing system.

ah cool
I'll try. And Hi Robbi by the way.
And let's not restart the debate here as I know it has been discussed elsewhere. So I shall explain, not debate, if that's ok :)
These crazy mASAs are actually more expensive than classic awards. BUT they come with points and SCs. That's why they are booked in preference to classic awards. BUT at the moment the booking of mASAs requires phone calls---of varying success.
Qantas/Jetstar already has a system that allows on-line payment for a bundle added on to paid Jetstar fares that gets QFF status credits. So in my mind (and again I am explaining not wanting to reopen debate) that values SCs, and demonstrates a model to allow on-line payment.
So a solution that springs to mind is to add a similar charge, for only those who wished to pay it, to classic awards. Do it on line. Save all the phone call nonsense.

For example, a simple 24,000-point JASA currently costs $107.00 more than an equivalent Classic. Which suggests the possibility: why not let people book a Classic, tick a box, and pay that extra $107 online to earn SCs and points?

Some JASAs cost less (in points) than equivalent Classics, and they might be casualties under such a system.

so then it gets down to this: is the issue that QFF do not want to do this for many possible and very valid reasons, or is it just too hard at the moment from an IT perspective?

Such is the meaning of life, to some of us, some of the time, anyway

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Ugh, turns out I need another 50 SCs for WP. Since I'll be travelling a lot this year, I might as well trigger it. Given that I'm in CBR, I was thinking JASA CBR-MEL = 40 SC and JASA or something else MEL-CBR? Is it even possible to book Economy ASA without dropping a million points on the flight? I'd just need 10 points for the return leg.

Or perhaps one of the CBR-MEL flights that drags you through Sydney, then just a Classic Award for 0 SCs MEL-CBR? If I fly CBR-xSYD-MEL, how do the SCs get calculated, particularly when there's one part that will end up Economy and one part J?

Thanks!

You could just do a JASA CBR-MEL for 40, and then a revenue fare home for the last 10.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Painful experience just now.
Followed this process http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rogram/asa-change-summary-how-book-52004.html
Called the number and spoke the 2 phrases over and over in various combinations explaining what I wanted to do. Agent kept telling me I could only book one or the other and just attempted to rail-road me into something (well that is what it felt like). I remained very calm and very, very polite. (I didn't mention I was calling from Rome at $3 per minute)

I then referred her to the Q card several times. She went away in a huff and read it I think. Came back with a different attitude (more understanding of what I wanted to do) and we got it booked.

She said there would be no booking fee as these can't be booked on line ... but blam it has just appeared on my statement. Rrrrrrrrr.

Tickets have not yet been issued (2 hrs have passed).

Agent took SWMBO QFF# ... but then when I looked at the booking, it wasn't entered (that was easy for me to fix).

Now to try and get the booking fees back. Since I'm in Italy I'll wait until I return back to Oz and make another call.

In In future you should use Skype

Yep ... But where I happened to be the WiFi is very poor and wouldn't sustain a VoIP call. So I was cough out of luck on that one.

Update ... 13 hours have passed and no tickets issued.

Where exactly are you looking to go? I've flown three JASAs out of here this year.

Hi daturtle. Thanks for replying. Nice to see another Isan on the forum. I really just wanted a status run so was looking at high SCs but had limited (100,000) points to spend. I ended up with a run to Perth via Bris/Syd on the way over, and direct through Bris on the way home. Used all my points, and gives me 320 (doubled to 640) toward maintaining WP (lol). Sorry I didn't see this reply earlier, am having a bit of trouble following the content of the forum - way out of my depth :)

Just start small, such as JASAs, and work your way up to some the other subjects covered. There is a lot here so it can be daunting. "Small steps". :)
