Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

I am only mere PS currently Robbi, but will be gold by the end of the week
My anniversary date is the end of this month, and I suspect it will be quite a few months before I earn 1200 SCs, so I don't think I will be in the running.

I got to Gold on the weekend but WP I think is some way off.

My anniversary is 31 March so the clock is about to start again. If only SC's ran for 12 months from date earned it might be a better deal.

In hindsight, I may have been better off booking my upcoming flight as a Classic and not JASA as it would have saved me some points and $$ and just booked Mrs B as a JASA. The SC's I'm going to earn wont do much for me really.

Has anybody rang and booked for 2 pax, 1 x JASA and 1x Classic on the same flight(s)?

I was Bronze Thursday, Silver Friday, and Gold by Monday (yesterday). Still 5 months in my year but unlikely to make WP.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

As I said the cash payment on a classic award is about $81 for a return.

Yes, $81.44 + $107.00 + $107.00 = $295.44 as given in the spreadsheet for your own return JASA.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Well, not always. For the very best JASAs, it IS in fact only slightly more in dollar terms. And of course these are the ones that we (including you!) seek out.

Take for example the ADL-BNE-TSV return JASA. (In my opinion one of the best around) Classic award is 72000 points + $156.82 including CC fee. Because of the quirks in the pricing of JASAs, this can be had as a JASA for 48000 points + $$$. But to compare apples with apples, if you price this JASA at 72000 points, the co-payment comes down to $161.87 including CC fee. I know this because I booked one last year before I became aware that you could get these at less points cost than classics.

So, unless you want to quibble about the definition of the word "slightly", my point stands.

What I'll quibble about is that you originally made a blanket statement that is false. You've actually opened this post with my point. Well not always. ASA do not always price out with a slightly higher cost contrary to your advice, not withstanding one example that you have found.

FFS! Read my post again! I gave the cost of both a classic award and a JASA. That's the point!

What a bizarre reaction. You actually added some information by giving $81.44 instead of "about $81", and I used that to demonstrate that the markup is exactly $107.00. Nothing there contradicts or takes issue with anything you've said at all. Just making things a bit more precise.

Your first reply to my post questions that post and completely misses the point. I was making a comparison.

Pretty clear who's missing the point now.

A mildly interesting empirical observation that might be useful in determining co-payment amounts for simple UASAs:

Looking at three different 16k bookings (CBR-MEL, BNE-SYD, MEL-ADL), the difference between the UASA and Classic co-payments is $69.50 in each case.
Looking at three different 24k bookings (SYD-HBA, SYD-ADL, BNE-TSV), the difference between the UASA and Classic co-payments is $107.00 in each case.

It's strong evidence that someone at QFF back in the way gave some serious thought as how they wanted to price the "package" of SCs (and points), and that most JASA buyers aren't simply getting a free ride relative to Classic buyers.

I also find it useful because when looking at Classic availability someone could look at the $81.44 figure you so helpfully cited and have a rough idea as to what the corresponding JASA might cost. And if the figure ends up matching exactly, it's pretty reassuring.

I shall now revert to my default option of grumbling about my SCs not posting, life's too short for this sort of pointless hostility.

I like the day to day change :)

Wouldn't it be funny if your Gold pack arrived before your Silver pack

In this case it appears we are both guilty of making blanket statements that are false.
