re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well intentioned, shintarox10x

Isn't that the (paid) job of Red Roo and his/her bosses ?

ACCC would have a field day looking into this practice of fee-on / fee-off depending on the particular CSRs.

The problem is that only a selection of customers know this fee should not be charged on xASA's, and we all know why Qantas wouldn't want everybody to know this as it costs them $35 for each booking... Yes its wrong but as always, buyer beware....

Anyone buying something should be prepared to negotiate when buying anything these days I think...

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just found some paperwork with some pre 26 June JASA stuff when I was helping my brother work out some potential JASA runs during his DSC. Turns out he didn't need to do one to requalify for WP due to the amount of domestic flights he did for work but here they are for those who may still have a window of opportunity to book them.

SYD/BNE/TSV (SC 40 + 60) JASA 24,000 points plus AUD132.37

TSV/BNE/AKL (SC 60 + 80) JASA 36,000 points plus AUD221.86

CNS/BNE/AKL (SC 60 + 80) JASA 36,000 points plus AUD229.61

CNS/SYD/AKL (SC 80 + 80) JASA 36,000 points plus AUD234.28

DRW/SYD/HNL (SC 80 + 140) JASA 72,000 points plus AUD453.22

DRW/SYD/NRT (SC 80 + 140) JASA 50,000 points plus AUD600.00ish (don't have exact amount)

The taxes on the above flights are only based on transit at the international gateway but in the past I found it much easier to book the JASA for both sectors all on the same day (the date I wanted to fly the SYD/HNL flight) then call up after the ticket was issued to bring forward the date of the DRW/SYD. When they change the date they need to re-issue the ticket in order to collect the tax for stopping over in SYD which doesn't amount to much.

Any of the JASA's with an international sector in most cases permit a stopover at the international gateway city so on a DRW/SYD/HNL ticket SYD can be a stopover so if you live in SYD you can purchase a one way SYD/DRW for a mini-break then use the first sector of the JASA DRW/SYD to fly home with the SYD/HNL sector taken a few months down the track.

My parents bought a one way ticket SYD/BNE then flew BNE/SYD on the first leg of the JASA then 2 months later flew SYD/AKL on the 2nd leg of the JASA to position for an NZ flight AKL/HNL.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

No luck here. BNE/ADL/BNE Classic shows on-line as 48,000 points and $ 139.35 taxes. Tried to book a MASA (using all the right wording) and the best they will do is 80,000 points and $ 495 in taxes (even with the help of a supervisor). This is the first time I've tried this by phone and it's pretty well a deal breaker for me. My WP status is guaranteed with all my bookings until 31st July 2015, but will be looking around at other airlines for any other travel from now on.

Try again... Sounds opposite from my two experiences booking MASA's

Opposite to my experience last week as well. Did you tell them what class ticket you were after? You can check the class at FlightStats

CNS/SYD/AKL had (? still has) the lowest MASA score of the lot.

Update: Bxx_xx_ just phoned me back. She checked all my previous flights to confirm what I've done in the past and spoke to supervisor again. Can't be done any cheaper. She offered the info and then confirmed they have NOT been given any training on this at all. (I phoned the dedicated 1300 number which went through to the premium line after keying in my QFF number if that makes any difference). Feeling quite frustrated at others success and lack of mine. Only thing to do is ring again and hope I get someone else

Did you give her the Q code?

Note: The reference card she used is known as "Right on Q" number 7740 which might help nudge those agents who aren't sure what to do. Also asking for an 'Any Seat Award booked into U class' is better than asking for 'Any Seat Award at Classic Award rate' as far as she was concerned.

Didn't know about the Q Code, but I did say Any Seat Award booked into U Class and she knew what I wanted. She was also frustrated at not being trained and not being able to do what I required

Precisely !

We were able to meet more competent CSRs and completed our MASAs.

You were unlucky, that's all.

Some key phrases to employ: ASA in U (for uniform) fare bucket / ASA at Classic Award Rate / Marginal ASA

You also need to know the route / flight numbers / Classic Award Points & $$ requirements at the time of booking.

Hello ! Red Roo, care to give us a spin on this real-life scenario ??

Sadly, the Q card would have complete instruction on how to do these ... if Bxx_xx_ can read and comprehend, with the Q Card, Bxx_xx_ should be able to execute.

SYD/BNE/TSV Return JASA cost me 48,000 points and AUD $356.16, an increase of $90.76 post 26 June.

So the $64,000 question is - if JASA's were able to be booked by us online again would the cash outlay revert back to the previous lower levels?

Think I know which I will see first.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I have had successful DOM & INT MASA bookings since June 26th.

But I operated on the clear assumption that it will disappear soon - in a matter of months - as all indications point towards the same conclusion.

Whether or not it is visible online is not an issue for me as now I (sort of) know how to navigate these waters.

I doubt very much if QF would change its webpage, search engine, business models.... just because we have been vocal.

I hope I am proven wrong by Qantas - don't misunderstand me *
