re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Well, the fact that I have admitted going via WLG to get to ZQN shows how little I value my time..:)

I never used to shy away from positioning myself in TSV to go to AKL via MEL & BNE. (I live in BNE). That said, I value the time wasted trying to phone for a MASA more than I value my time flying around the countryside!

One of the things about flying around the country to get to B from A is that it is a apleasure normally. Sitting down being fed and watered and watching a movie. I find that a relaxing waste of time versus spending time doing something that I could have done myself in next to no time This I call a Complete Time Waster

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

1st call - asked for an ASA - oh you can do that on line - "No I can't" - Yes you can - made her walk me through it online and explained she needs to learn her product as points plus pay is not ASA!!! - really I was at work and had the time so education is the key

2nd call - asked for an ASA into U fare bucket - didn't have a clue - gave her Right on Q - number 7740 - and told her to go read. Call started at 2.21pm - located the instructions and got my flight details at 2.23pm and have been on hold since (currently 2.35pm)

Hi Deejo so did you succeed?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hi Deejo so did you succeed?

"Thankyou for calling Deejo, he is busy trying trying to accomplish what used to be done online in minutes with Qantas and cannot make it to the phone right now. As he is waiting for a call centre member to read a memo published some time ago before having a go at trying to do what used to be this basic task, the expect wait in the queue before Deejo can take your call is over an hour, please leave a message and deejo will post back as soon as he can"

Cannot help but wonder what this is costing......

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Book classics IMHO and save the money....who loses ?...not you and me I suggest

You're not really saving much money by booking Classics as is some cases there may have 'only' been $100.00 difference eg SYD/HNL JASA & YASA AUD453.22 vs Classic for AUD296.23. JQ taxes are the same for Star Class or economy & for SYD/HNL are AUD221.63.

I'm sure 'bean counter logic' would hope you would just be happy with booking Classics as they're still raking in the dosh with fees albeit to a slightly lesser extent than for JASA's, however the big win for them is there is no outgoing cost or liability in the form of points/SC earn to be given to the pax.

Some people may think that paying close to AUD300.00 in airline fees/charges/taxes to get zero return in points/SC isn't worth it through QF so may elect to be financially better off redeeming through AAdvantage.

Classic Cost 72,000 points Plus Co Pay $165.00 v what was 48000 points plus around $320 to $360.00

Rather have the JASA plus SC Plus Points Please

Other way I am Loosing out

I'm hearing you!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Don't despair!

Last night I did my second "call up" MASA booking. Both successful. :)
I didn't take particular note of the time taken for the first a couple of weeks ago, but last night I was on the phone for the grand total of seven minutes.

True, I had the flight number, date, route, Classic points, etc all sorted and had confirmed the Classic availability. Even so, it was painless and listed on my QF page as soon as I had completed the phone call.
I used the Plat phone number, asked for FASA at Classic rates, booking into P class, and queried the T&Cs.

"Eva" did not put a foot wrong in the exchange.

Mind you, I would still rather make the booking on line!
Even just checking the availability of Classics is a bit of a pain.
Does anybody else find that often, not always, it is impossible to search for F only? The unticked boxes for Y, J etc automatically re-check, when the search is requested?

Very irritating.

But, for the moment, happy - relatively - with the outcome.
Now to find the outbound leg, which is still proving elusive. :)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Had a seamless experience today. Rang WP call centre at 8.45am, asked for "any seat award booking at classic points level in U class", had e-tickets issued for 11am flight to MEL for 2 people at 9.25am in my email inbox.

That was after being advised that they need a minimum of 4 hrs before the flight to get tickets issued, but John booked us into the 1pm flight and said there were 2 U class seats available in the 11am flight so when the e-tickets are issued to call back and change.

5 mins later, the e-tickets popped into my inbox so a quick call back to the WP call centre and we were moved onto the 11am flight.

I seem to recall that you couldn't get any award seats issues on the same day previously so that at least is a positive enhancement.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Oh dear. I have just noticed two 3500 point "award assistance fees" taken from my account for my two most recent ASA bookings. Nothing of this was mentioned at the booking and we all know (or at least I think we do) that there is no charge for doing these on the phone. More time to be wasted on the phone tomorrow.

Now I know why I have been glancing at my activity statement when I log on to QFF.

So far, nothing like yours yet.

Maybe we should all be confirming at the time of booking - like I do - that fee is waived, instead of not mentioning it when it is not brought up by the CSRs.

In other words, active prevention of these backhanded charges which will cost you TIME to remove.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

SO now we find that Qantas is one of that group of merchants where you have to keep checking your account to make sure they haven't sneaked fees and charges out of your account.

Absolutely charming.

Will make me hang closer to my wallet whenever on QF premises.

I'm now on my third call about this. I'm starting to doubt myself about not being charged to do phone bookings :(

"The only time you don't get charged is when you do it on-line yourself"

Well DUH!

Edit to add: three calls and roughly twenty minutes in total and "of course we can refund them for you sir"
Admittedly some of this was my fault because I'm in a situation where it was difficult to access my booking references and I thought they could see my points transactions.
In the end though I only got somewhere with (stern voice) "if you are going to be so insistent then I must be insistent too and ask to speak to a supervisor"
I think all this carry on is demonstrating what a minority sport mASAs are

Yep, I had the same with one of my ASA bookings, no mention of the fee during the call. As soon as I saw it I rang back and spoke to a different consultant who arranged the fees to be re credited. The consultant who charged me happened to be the one I had the most difficulty with, trying to steer me into classic awards or points plus pay and wanting to argue the toss with me, then telling me the ASA wasn't able to be changed or refunded (he was wrong on both counts).

Well I don't know what you're all complaining about :) - just got Rebecca on the phone who was fantastic - booked J ADL BNE CNS for 50000 points and $140 and J ADL SYD ret for 60000 and $195 - mind you when I asked about ADL LHR next April they wanted 128000 plus $4640 for J - declined that one but PE could do 96000 points and $614 - she also mentioned that there would no fee for booking on the phone and no change fee as long as there were seats available - BUT they did slug me two lots of credit card fees - ce la vie 240 SC

How do you do PE for ADL-LHR? Do you go via SYD/ MEL as EK don't have PE? or the annoying ! where when you hover over it, it says it is actually Y?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

booked J ADL BNE CNS for 50000 points and $140 and J ADL SYD ret for 60000 and $195

Just for reference, the JASA minimums would be 36,000 and 48,000 respectively.
