re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

.......is there any doubt that this is a deliberate strategy by QF management to charge for these where they can get away with it?

Well you have just stated one of the many benefits of being a member of AFF and reading the forums :D Or putting it simply these bookings are only available for us ;)

Perhaps it is a deep plan to find out who are the QFF members that participate in these threads... With my booking yesterday I had the suspicion that they pretty much knew where I was getting my information from...here on AFF

<snip>:

Ah! Hasn't anyone told you about that OTHER online flyer forum where Qantas shares the real tips and gives away upgrades etc very freely?

So sorry, you have been missing out :(

Ok, just kidding. You see, it shouldn't be a requirement to read AFF to be treated fairly and equitably by Qantas. A Red Roo type of help / advice should be available to all pax. Qantas should be open and transparent to all.

It's just done here to try to mollify the more outspoken types; helps keep the 'official' complaints down I guess, so those Management Reports look sweeter and KPIs are more easily met.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Ok, lil help please! - anyone!

Im really confused, which is most certainly par for the course.

MEL-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-MEL
Classic is 72,000 and $138.45

MEL-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-MEL
Classic points used as and any seat award is 72,000 and $525.70 (so i was told on the phone)

Can anyone please check this is the case, if so the cash payment seems crazily high, can someone confirm what I should be paying for the ASA?

Looks about right when compared with similar flights.

Here is the reference guide link and the google.doc it points to:

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just made my first over the phone booking - little uncertain being the first time - but all went well. Not sure if it is appropriate to name names but the operator (called the 1300 but ended up at the plat line) knew exactly what was I was after and everything was done in a strait forward, professional and friendly manner. Obviously prefer to book online - but the process was quite painless.

MEL -xSYD - NRT J return.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Had a spare Sunday so I called to test going to BNE,MEL or ADL from Sydney.
Settled on SYD-ADL-SYD for the Haigh's chocolate even though Guylian is really close to home.
The cost was an extra 7,000 points to call and go Any Seat in J for the 50% extra SC bonus.

You know there's a Haigh's in Sydney, right? :)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes I do know that. That shop is very busy in Sydney.
I sent my wife to Adelaide so it is my turn now.
When Qantas make an offer of extra SCs we do try to take the offer up.

I wonder if anyone has tried using the WP benefit of releasing award seats together with booking the released seats as MASA. Will it work? :D

Anecdotal evidence suggests that it won't work. I think that Princess Fiona can attest to that.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Is the xASA call up method still only available from 9-5pm ?
I vaguely remember that the available hours were extended ?

Anytime now, Nizar

Done that many times - late at night even.

No, you can now call 24x7 as per one of Red Roo's posts....

My suggestion though is not to ring too early in the morning, the times I have done this I end up talking to the NZ call center, they have very little knowledge how to book these things... on the other hand Hobart call center has always been good for these. My suggestion is to call around AEST 3:30pm. I have pretty much had 100% success calling around this time... That's my 2c worth anyway

What was the 7K points specifically for?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

That was the extra points between Classic and ASA on that day.
