re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Success today for my first phone J SYD-xBNE-TSV ret. Called the 1300 number and got through to the standard desk :shock. Initially confusion reigned until I politely dropped in roq7740. He (Robert?) Worked through it from top to bottom & sorted it out with no mistakes or on hold referrals. Read out there is no assistance fee. About 17minutes although I had all my flight routings ready of course.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Looking at my activity statements just now, I find that I've booked 19 JASAs since they went offline, maybe 16 calls in total.

In that time I've been charged a 3,500 point fee twice, but it's been quickly reversed after I called back to point it out.

Early on there was a lot of "Can I put you on hold?", but not so much lately.

Even today I was told "You can only book direct flights now", but the computer thankfully said otherwise.

I still wish there was more transparency as to what's possible and what's not (and why), but all in all, it seems to be getting better from my limited perspective.

Fingers crossed that they are actually here to stay.

I'm just trying to find a hard and fast rule for why BNE-xsyd-ADL prices as BNE-SYD + SYD-ADL, and want to rule out CSR "initiative".
try checking out some commercial fares with dummy booking searches.

Look for obvious double charges with connecting flights rather than perhaps a little more in taxes when compered with the cost of direct routes.

For example on the differences to look for, compare MEL to BNE against MEL to OOL.

Isn't it just because you can fly direct?

I had same issue trying ADL-SYD-BNE-TSV.

Because that is not a valid route in the fare rules for BNE-ADL. It used to be valid a couple of years ago, they changed it.

You can fly direct from CBR to ADL, or CBR to BNE, but it's still possible to book via SYD at minimum points. I can understand the argument that there is only limited frequency with the former, but less so with the latter.

Thanks. Where do I find that information if I'm not a travel agent?

I'm happy to check sabre for any city pair to see what the valid routings are if you request it here or by pm.

I would guess that cbr is different because there are limited direct flights from CBR to ADL - may one or 2 a day. BNE-ADL has 3/4 a day. Plus Parliament is a bit of a special case….

Sorry, I don't really know either. I'm sure I can look them up in expert flyer, but that is a paid subscription. There may be free tools to look up the information. I don't use that info..

I have one, but still don't know where to look. Anyway, thanks.

Do a search under fare information. That then shows the various fare rules on a particular route. On the right there is an icon for the route. Click that and I think that shows the routing rules. However, that's all I've got. I can only just decipher those rules and then I'm probably wrong.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hmmm. Booked an ASA, but it is showing up on my activity statement as a "Classic Award" point deduction. Should I be worried?

Yes! You will need to call ASAP ... :(

if you recall date/time of call and the name of who you spoke to they may be able to listen to the recording (I'm assuming this will back you up :) )

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Thanks. I do recall time and first name of the operator. Still shows as U and P class in MMB; but I will call in the morning.

Absolutely! That happened to me a week ago. I pm'd Red Roo, who got another CSR to call me and 'fix' the problem. The classic award was cancelled and a JASA listed in my activity statement.

I used the JASA today, and the first sector has been listed in my activity statement - as a classic - 0 SC and 0 pts!

I am not happy! Just waiting for the other sectors to list. Don't suppose the DSC will list either.

Just giving QF your FF number gives them all the information they need, you don't need to remember anything.
