Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

I requested and received verbal assurance that our F/MASA SYD-LHR for Apr 15 was fully flexible. Turned out not to be the case when I changed dates and was slugged $300...

I was also assured my FASA was fully flexible because "it's a First Class ticket, off course you can change it or even cancel with no penalty" (the words of the agent). Lucky that I already knew the rules very well so I asked her to check the T&Cs. When she came back, she apologised and said this fare indeed has different rules.
Oh well, one less issue to deal with in 5 days.

Thanks Red Roo. Another question if I may: can an existing JASA or FASA be changed (post June 30) to a later date subject to U or P availability?

Yes, changes are permitted as they always have been as per the applicable commercial fare rules, including rebooking into existing redemption classes where available.

So the final MASA could be an international flight on June 18, 2016?

I guess you could book a flight for June 18, 2015 on June 30, 2014, then after (say) seven months change it to a flight on December 18, 2015, then after another seven months (August 18, 2015) change it to a flight on June 18, 2016 based on the "within a year of the original booking" rule?

I'm confident that sending a PM would probably get the $300 back .... I'm contented to fly First Class SYD-LHR-SYD + Business Class BNE-SYD-BNE + points + SC for basically SFA :p

Anyone has problem getting the MASAs ticketed? Mine hasn't ticketed since yesterday (was told it should take an hour). Happens last time I booked a MASA too few months ago :(

I had the same thing with mine a couple of days ago. Rang up and they resent it to ticketing and I had PDF emailed and points deducted within minutes

Earn rates for "MASAs" from 1 July 2014 are: X class (Discount Economy), Z class (Flexible Economy), U class (Business), and P class (First).

Please see the Airline Earning Table (located at the very bottom of this page) as reference. Hope this helps.

Thanks for clarifying Red Roo.

Unfortunately I've had several agents confirm that I would indeed be earning at the Business Flexible rate (please check back recorded discussions to verify if necessary). Most were on the Premium desk and knew exactly how to book a MASA which gave me some comfort at the time.

What sort of recourse is available to me? I cancelled several MASAs for travel prior to July 1 based upon their advice assuming I would the higher rate.

Anyone tried booking MASA ex ports that normally has "show-up-at-our-office-with-your-CC" requirement (e.g. CGK or BKK) before? How does it work?

Back when we could book MASAs online, I finalised the booking and then called the premium line to make the fees payment in AUD. Did it 3 or 4 times without issue.

it is not an issue as you are doing it via phone anyways. Our recent 1-way from BKK & HKG were all done over phone via standard mASA process and no fees.

Regarding the ones you rebooked. Have you checked to make sure the earning hasn't decreased? If your not caught in that trap than you will still earn the same as if you didn't rebook.

If anyone is interested there are two award F seats MEL-LHR 9th June 2015 available at the moment.

Re: Successful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Thanks everyone for bringing this up - sounds like we have come to the end of an era. Being a QFF NB and a rather infrequent flyer. I had limited availability for booking mASA in J let alone F.

I did take the plunge today for my first and by all accounts likely last mASA. I followed the steps but I guess because I don't have the WP/SG/PS priority number the person didn't know what meant by ASA at CR rate they insisted that it was either one or the other.

I managed to book SYD-BNE-SIN (ret) in Mar 15 for 3 + 1 infant for the classic award rate. All up 360,000 + ~$2400, but I burned my remaining points so in the end I paid ~$1000 this is compared to 360,000 + ~$2000 on a CR with no status or points.

The 3 of us paying for the tickets are all NB but will be PS after the flights.

Sounds like you paid the right amount of points and $ for the fare. What does your activity statement say?

My first ever FASA ended up being a huge disappointment after QF cancelled the F service to HKG.
This time I decided to add London to my next Euro trip and booked SYD-LHR-MEL for May/June next year :)
Not many seats left available and only 3 days to go to "win" a spot in the F cabin.

Hardcore! Very nice.

I reckon that's 350 SCs for the first two, and 540 SCs for the last.
