Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

FWIW I called up to request an upgrade (go on the waiting list) for QF94 on a JASA. After checking I was told this was not possible with a award ticket. I explained an ASA has the properties of a normal fare and the agent checked with her supervisor again and assured me I was wrong. I asked to speak to the supervisor and was 'accidentally' hung up on with no call back (they have my mobile number from my profile).

I called back and spoke to another agent who didn't know but to her credit was prepared to read the literature and clarify with her supervisor. It took maybe 10 minutes but it was all sorted. By then she saw the previous agent's notes in the ticket saying it was not possible - agent 2 said she would communicate to agent 1 and explain it is indeed possible. The first agent was based in NZ, the second sounded Australian.

Posted on other thread but for info here...anyone else had the problem re the points???

Rang the 1300 number, got a guy who did not understand, would not read instructions on ROQ7740 and put me through to the frequent flyer office, which naturally was closed.
Rang back and got the delightful Christine who organised 3 flights for me. One quirk came up when doing the second booking in that the system told her I did not have enough points, even though she could see 150K plus in account. She checked and was told that was a common problem and to push through. All was well

DEC13 |DEC13 | Business | KTA-PER-KTA | 48,000 | 306.84 | $7cc | 240 sc (Xmas double offer) this done 3 times.

Just did a cbr-syd-hba return and it was literally all done in 2 or 3 minutes. Fabulous service. found the flights online in advance first which helped

JASA is upgradeable

I agreed with your stance and am appalled with the pathetic response of CSR #1.

MASA is certainly upgradeable with points.

I had done it (J to F) twice now.

Perhaps, CSR #1 should be gently re-educated (Hello, Red Roo !)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

With so many pages to dig through I thought I'd just ask instead as I haven't found it in my search. Is it possible to still get those SYD-BNE-TSV JASAs for around 40 000 points but on the phone? I wasn't sure how you can even find out if they exist without it being on the website. With the double SCs on offer the only way I can requalify next year will be doing this (or TSV-BNE-DRW and back if that's still around).

Probably need a little sticky that's a "how to". Knowing my ignorance it's probably already in existence.

In short, yes, still possible.

This is a good place to start:

Would be even better if people would refrain from posting other stuff there.

Thanks for this - I realised when I posted that I should have looked for stickies. I found the summary thread which led me to the above thread and will now attempt to digest that.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

2nd JASA booked today, 2nd easy, quick, smooth call. :)

SYD-ADL-SYD, 48k and $295. Good timing and matches my wife's VA flights (free AMEX flight) within 20 minutes each way.
(Wanted ADL-MEL-SYD on the way back, but not available as an ASA for the same 24k points, even though it's possible as a Classic award. Not too fussed, still happy with 240SCs for 48k and $295. Not to mention a few days in the Barossa :)).

Cheers,
- Febs.

do we also get the status credits of F instead of J if we upgrade?

Time to ticket the xASA bookings

30 hours later, my points has not been deducted for my JASA booking.

I can't see the e-ticket number on the booking on CheckMyTrip nor have I received the e-Ticket email. For you guys who booked recently, how long did it take to get those?

Should I be worried?

The last one I booked, by the time I got off the phone and logged into my QF account, the points were gone and the flights were showing in my bookings.

Why not give Q a polite call - it won't hurt.

Doesn't make sense to me - did they say why? It should still be available if the U bucket is available?

Re: Time to ticket the xASA bookings

Mine were deducted and confirmation sent almost immediately after booking.

Don't be worried, nothing a phone call wont fix!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Up to you, but I'm still not convinced by the indirect route theory, especially given the CBR-SYD-BNE booking cited today.

Lots of availability for BNE-MEL direct on the 25th, 24,000 points, 60 SCs before doubling, only $144 copayment.

And I think you'd have a good chance of getting a better price via CBR or SYD if you tried again.

I called again but still no luck - they are sticking to 32000 points as the minimum for a JASA on BNE-CBR-MEL... Oh well, at least I get 160 status credits (with a DSC) instead of 120 with a direct routing!

There has been a bit of chatter on that thread at the moment, which considering there in a DSC on the go, is understandable. As members get to know the different threads it should abate.

I requalified as SG in about May with an October anniversary so flew VA for the next six months to get to SG there. Have only flown QF once in that time. Better get on with it if I'm to requalify this year. I only fly domestically so it's a bit of a long haul (no pun intended) to get to SG with both.
