Strange. My card has a +2 month expiry... I presume for just this type of situation.

Real world scenario, need beer money on a Saturday night in Singapore:

Citibank ATM $200 SGD = $172.08 debited to my plus account or 1.1622
Qantas Cash currently 1.1278

XE
200.00 SGD = 170.317 AUD
Singapore Dollar ↔ Australian Dollar
1 SGD = 0.851584 AUD 1 AUD = 1.17428 SGD

The transaction settled overnight and actual cost was $170.37.

Not Working for points ?

My new card arrived last week. I went to use it at a PER hotel this morning to claim points. They usually run it through the Card reader.

First she tried using the mastercard stripe - that didn't work

Then she tried inserting the chip. That didn't work either, so after several attempts we gave up - no Points :(

the staff had never seen this new card. Anyone else had a similar problem ?

Gary

Apparently my card arrived at the start of the week, but it's not much good to me on the other side of the world.

My card arrived in the mail today. Just a plain white envelope. I was expecting something with a little more fanfare. Perhaps hand delivered on a silver tray accompanied by trumpet players. Dear oh dear, how is a WP to feel?

My 2014 card arrived yesterday as well - just two weeks after I received my new WP Cash version for this year.

Used the chip, magnetic stripe and paypass, all have worked fine.

Just got mine, but why would anyone use this over 28 deg for example? points for fee is not worth it right?

And you have to pay $1 a month if inactive??

I know it's a simple question but you did go through the steps on www.qantascash.com to activate your card first prior to trying to use it?

Got my white card back today in the mail with a personal note from the flight attendant who found it :)

My card came a bit over a week ago (letter dated 3-Sep-2013), but the card has an expiry date of OCT 2013...so the card lifespan is less than 2 months! Not sure what is going on there.

To be expected given they are doing an initial mail out, after which it will be a yearly thing. Happy to say my card is now up and running, apparently my experience was not normal and you should have no issues using the card until a replacement one arrives as part of a new FF year.

Considering its a fee free debit card that earns points for local spend, many will find that attractive who are not in a position to have a credit card or want one.

No card here yet, or DSC offer or comp and have 11 days until current status (WP) is reassessed.
Hopefully they have worked out there "teething" issues before they send mine out.

QFF Qantas Cash Card

I have to say, that after heaps of previous email bombardment from Jetstar, for their version of this product, I had assumed that the Qantas one would have been set up with similarly outrageous fees. And as I am yet another 28 degree happy camper... I hadn't bothered keeping up with this thread.

But when I glanced at the brochure as I was throwing it out, I thought that with no load fees, plus Qantas Points earn, I may as well activate the thing even if I don't use it.

Agree with what others have said about -
  • PIN (I didn't bother memorising/writing it down, and the process to go through to retrieve it, if I do decide to use the product, is exhausting. So the lack of self-select PIN will, in all probability, mean that I never use QF Cash.)
  • Currency Fluctuation Game (if there is a hint of a massive devaluation of the AUD against any currency that I regularly use, I may be tempted to load it - if the value of not earning interest on my AUD outweighs the anticipated exchange rate drop.)
Also

  • I could be tempted to load the small amount of USD currency I have in PayPal directly across, if this loading facility was ever on offer. (i.e. PayPal USD into QF Cash USD)

The fee is only charged after 12 months inactivity and there is no fee if your balance is below $1.
