Have your say with the QFF CEO over lunch at Rockpool Bar and Grill...

Hi everyone,

<snip> Have a great weekend! And for those based in NSW, enjoy that extra day off on Monday.

Cheers,
Red Roo

And that would also apply for those of us based in SA I would assume? Or is this another enhancement we don't know about yet?

(smiley's didn't attach - comment should be followed by razz, wink & laughing!)

Hi Red Roo

It would be a valuable experience I am very keen to see what happens with Platinum One. I know Mr Joyce is keen for Platinum etc members to pool there travel $$ toward the QANTAS Group. It is interesting then to look at the effect of off shore fares & competitors fares within that discussion, especially ones in the ONEWorld Group.

Recent marketing campaigns by Virgin Australia & Industrial Action have put pressure on allegiance.

I am concerned about the direction of both Union Actions & Group operations, so this day would be very beneficial to be at.

If paid tickets are also available, I would be more than happy to pay.

Cheers:p

welcome to AFF :)

Official AFF uniform - I like it! :D

I am still using my old blue ones, but they are on the way out. Thankfully have 3 pairs of the new AFF uniforms to use (including one pair still in the presentation ribbon)

I wish everyone who has entered best of luck!

That photo gives me a scary idea for the AFF in meet in Canberra this weekend. Hint: I have a camera and quite a few spare pairs of QF J PJs for those who don't have their own ;)

I'll have to see if I can dig out my pair...

Here's a question to put forward;

/rant start.

If I'm a frequent flyer (WP) with Qantas and buy a ticket with a Qantas flight number that Qantas choose to operate through a codeshare arrangement with a partner airline, why can't I still have access to a Lounge before my flight?

Is lounge access a 'benefit' that will be further eroded by an increase in QF codeshare flights?

Example:
Originally booked QF ADL-SYD-HKG-BLR return.
Due to work commitments had to change return flight to BOM-SIN-PER-ADL, sold as QF3950-QF072-QF584.
Additional cost to change; $291.00

QF3950 = codeshare = no lounge access.
No lounge access = unhappy customer = no more codeshare flights.

No more codeshare flights = lost revenue for Qantas and codeshare partner, and win for either *A or Virgin.

/rant over.

There is a lounge in BOM, so I am not sure why you wouldn't have access? Especially as it is a QF flight number.

The Qantas Club Lounge locations in Asia

Mumbai is marked under associate lounges.

you should have lounge access in this situation ...

For some reason the QF decides to mark the Mumbai lounge specifically as you must have a Qantas operated and marketed flight. Otherwise, normally access would be granted on account of WP (or SG or even QP for that matter).

oneworld rules would not allow access in this instance either. Net result is no access, unless you are flying J.

A similar deal holds for Shanghai, according to the table.

Really weird, unless it has something to do with the ground arrangements (still weird).

That's what I thought too, having used the Clipper lounge twice previously in the last 6 months (admittedly, booked on QF 052 which is why I thought I wouldn't have a problem using the lounge).

However, reading the T&C's more carefully it is only for Qantas marketed and operated flights which does not apply to codeshare flights operated by another airline even though sold and ticketed as a QF flight.

So, flying QF 052 BOM-SIN you're OK, but if you fly QF 3950 it's "screw you mate!" That's why I'm questioning the expansion of codeshare flights & denial of lounge access - will this become the norm rather than the exception?

Cost containment, QF wants to limit who can use it because of the costs, same goes for QP members and Nadi.

I don't know why BOM and PVG are listed as exceptions to this rule. What did QF do wrong in the contract agreement so they couldn't cover non-QF operated codeshares?

In any case, to be fair, if only 9W (I assume they operated your flight) were part of oneworld, you would've been perfectly fine (and if not, wander over to the BA lounge instead).

Most of the new codeshares QF is setting up is with oneworld partners, like BA, CX and JL. Plus of course incarnations of Jetstar (the Lounge Access table will need to be updated once Jetstar Japan gets up, unless that's another restricted agreement), except oddly enough BL (Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam) is not within the rules.

So in summary it's not so much the problem with the rules as a whole as it is with the fact that BOM is an exception to those rules, and that's not good. A similar issue exists with MU operated QF codeshares for China domestic which operate from PVG. (My preference, price notwithstanding, would still be to route via HKG then continue via CX or KA, but sometimes with rerouting you have no choice.)

One thing to keep in mind for those in the know next time - perhaps when QF spring a rebooking, one should get in contact to assure them they will continue to have lounge access, with much stern follow-up if this doesn't follow through.

There not alone, CHC is also QF/JQ only, not that there is too many codeshares ex CHC.

@Red Roo, when will you be drawing the 10 winners? Some I am sure like me will need to take a day from work to attend (happily) but need x time to request the day off.
