Heads up about program changes

No need to ignore that the stupid suggestion was clearly designed to attack me. As demonstrated the suggestion also had no connection to my post.
Even so don't take it personally your better than this way better! Should be like water of a ducks back .....

If everyone made Platinum One tomorrow how valuable do you think that would be? It is all relative. If everyone had Silver+ status how many people do you think would be in the premium check-in and boarding queues?

There is a thread I started a while back that status is way too easy to attain. And yes I include myself in those that take shortcuts. I see it as a challenge. A game. The goalposts have now changed. Time to move on or spend more money to attain Platinum + Partner Gold.

Looks like you are right on the ball with this ..... Nevertheless would suggest to all here spend money productively as possible!

This is great advice.

I wish I knew how to spend my money productively instead of looking at ways to spend my money on dead end flights.

But I am getting off topic....

JohnK I have the same problems on knowing how to "spend money productively" ..... sounds a bit like Kevin07 speak?

Not everyone is the same.

I cannot fault the service Qantas provides on domestic services.

On the other hand I have nothing good to say about the service Virgin provides.

I've just switched from QF to VA and the service has been at least as good on VA as QF.

Your are not at OOL today are you?

But seriously. VA service? Where? On board?

I would love to know what you guys are seeing at VA that I am missing.

On short flights, i.e. around 2 hours or less I just seen no difference on board. I am lucky enough to be in row 3 on VA and 4 on QF (if it is a 737.) We take off, a couple of FA's wheel a trolley down the aisle offer me a drink/snack and then later come back and take the rubbish. It is done politely and efficiently, and in my opinion no differently between VA and QF.

Wander a little bit further back in cabin and tell me if its the same.

Also Qantas cabin crew have finished service and load cart with refills while VA cabin crew are still halfway throuh service. Qantas then does another run through to collect trays and then another 1-2 rubbish collections. I can ask for a refill anytime before commencing descent. VA comes back to collect rubbish when they commence descent.

Yes I know we are all different. I arrive into SYD generally quite late and lounge is not open. On board I prefer something to eat (not snack) and 2-3 drinks.

My whole family each with own personal experiences will not touch J in Qf if able to fly VA. QF points end up only at QStore.
Eldest daughter tonight originally booked 1C on VA 788 Syd - Mel tonight was asked given the delays if she would like to go on VA 787 which she gladly accepted.

I was at BNE 2 weeks ago, and my travel agent accidently booked me on the 4pm Thursday flight instead of Wednesday. I didnt realise until I went to board the plane. VA were really good about it - even though checked in on a saver fare they sorted me out on the next available flight even though it wasn't their fault.

2 weeks before that they let me into the lounge even though my gold status hadn't ticked over yet.

On board they've been great. I generally fly early morning then 4 - 6pm (peak times) and they give me everything I need (including food & drinks). I flew Hobart - Melb yesterday on QF and I think I overheard them charging for wine? (I could be wrong about this).

So far this year from MEL I've been to SYD, BNE, PQQ, ROK, HBA on VA (a decent sample size) and I have zero complaints. I'm not saying they're better than QF, I'm just saying that in my experience, they've been at least as good. And they're cheaper.

Maybe you are right. They have handled todays delays very poorly.

I was informed of the original delay but no update on further 45m delay.

I am on the 9:00pm SYD-MEL flight and at OOL I ask if there is another flight after this one. I am told no other flight. Wrong.

Qantas would have handled the situation a lot better. Why do I say that? Because I have been there before with both airlines and Virgin consistently fails.

But I guess to each their own. There are people who claim have never had a JQ delay/cancellation.

If you call hot dogs, no spirits, coughpy cheese crackers and biscuits, disinterested flight attendants and hipsters galore "at least as good" then I wish you luck.

I should be VA's biggest fan given my demographic, but I absolute despise them!

Nothing, VA is a joke

Yep VA are still in amateur hour that's for sure. Flew them about a month ago and they haven't really changed in a year or so since my previous flight.

I have ZERO reason to fly VA even with these QF enhancements and simplications and free lunches for some...

Just booked another few MEL-SYD-MEL flights on QF. The website just works, I get row 6 for now though :(

Row 3 on VA is pretty damn good I must admit!

Unfortunately we will all have our own likes and dislikes and regardless of sample size, may not agree with each other. Of course no disagreement would mean no moderation :o (what would we do then ;)).

Back to the on topic discussion about the program changes.

I'm actually looking forward to doing more split bookings in the future. It's sooo much fun having multiple screens open checking fares. I really do need to throw my last 12 months worth of flights and see if there is any discernible SC difference. Sunday night job, thanks to medhead's previous chart.

I see the qantas apologists are out in force. They may think a coughpy breakfast at 6 am is worth something. Personally I'd rather keep the $30.

It's the same further back in the cabin. You've described exactly what I experience on VA. VA come back and collect rubbish for the 3rd time at the top of descent in my experience. It is entirely possible to have 2-3 drinks on VA if you wish.

You are being rather generous costing the breakfast at $30, even for QFd. My smoothie and ham and cheese croissant in J SIN - SYD served at 4 in the morning was only matched by the equally underwhelming soup or chicken schnitzel sandwich offered the night before. Assuming passengers are going to use the lounge before hand for a 19:30 departure is just pathetic.
Only airline I know that takes at least half of a 7+ hour overnight flight to serve food made worse by being of take away standard.

I've had delays but no cancellations. Couldn't land twice due to atrocious weather - stuff happens.

Had a flat tyre once, which needed to be replaced, and missed the connection. Although I'm sure flat tyres aren't limited to JQ - it could've been any other carrier in the world.

Will be interesting to see how many QF loyal members will end up crossing the road to VA as a result of the recent "enhancements".
I see a lot of anger and disappointment coming from QF customers but that's a natural reaction to the recent events. It happened in the past and will most likely happen again in the future. What I want to see is how many of those who "talk the talk" will actually "walk the walk" to the other side. Time will tell...
