Heads up about program changes

Maybe not from Hogwarts, but certainly from the East coast ports of BNE, SYD & MEL.

Is it still possible to fly QF to Asia? I thought it was almost all code shae on EK or deathstar.
SYD has 7 QF operated destinations in Asia with another 5 codeshared and 3 more JQ.
MEL has 2 QF, 4 more JQ and 4 codeshare
BNE has 2 QF, 1 JQ and 1 codeshare
PER has 3 JQ and 1 codeshare
ADL has 1 JQ
DRW has 2 JQ
OOL has 1 JQ
CNS has 3 JQ
(some ports may have QF+JQ or QF+codeshare. Have only counted to JQ and codeshare if QF does not operate the route)

From MEL & BNE 2 flights each per day. ADL none, PER none. SYD is much better served but I like flying via SYD as much as via LAX (i.e. avoid if at all possible). So not much really if not based in SYD.

My point was re flying QF: not deathstar and not codeshare as neither are QF.

Gosh, as far as QF operated is concerned, that's almost as many as Finnair operated, ex Helsinki! Yes, some seasonal, but its a stark comparison isn't it?

On the other hand, how many people even fly Qantas to Asia these days?

Believe me, when I'm in SIN, every time I said I'm flying on Qantas, the other person is almost guaranteed to ask me why am I still flying with them.

I'm just having a look at the program changes stuff. There seems to be no reason to think partner airlines points earning will change. They have announced changes to QF and JQ points earn. But in relation to partners all they say is "There are also some changes to the way you ran status credits on our partner airlines..."

Therefore changes to QF/JQ earning and also some changes to SC on partners.

It was mentioned previously that the earn rates for partners will also move to the "simpler" region-based format. It might be too confusing for them to make it happen in time, however.

Some big changes.

have a look at status credits - business class - Qatar airways - MEL to DOHA

vs

business class QF MEL to Dubai

- both end destinations very close to one another but VERY different status earn.

Yes it is still possible. I am planning another 2-3 trips later this year and next year.

My only gripe is flying the A330. Wish it was 747 or A380.

By Asia are you referring to the whole continent or anything other than the middle east?

If you include the whole continent, QF fly to CGK, SIN, MNL, DXB, BKK, PVG, NRT and HKG from SYD, SIN, HKG and DXB from MEL and SIN and HKG from BNE currently.

So yes it is still possible to fly QF to Asia from the East Coast to answer your question.

Or SYD-LHR based on my reading of the tables:

QF & Partner Old= 240
QF New = 280
Partner new = 140

So I make it that partner SC now half of QF.

A points table for partners replaced the SC table a few weeks back, but was then removed and has not been seen again.

Re fairer - maybe for Qantas who want to encourage QF over partner loyalty but not for us

Having just flown a short segment on UL, I took a quick look at their program, FLYSMILES. The flight distances for status earning are quite reasonable. However, 50% of the credits must have been on UL. I didn't look any further, but perhaps I should have, as soft landings could make the program useful.

Your assignment, should you accept it, is to explore the details and post back. Couple of trips to Europe a year would do it...

Happy wandering

Fred

So I make it that partner SC now half of QF.

I plugged some random dates for October into SYD-LHR return in biz for oneworld airlines.

MH: $6,000
CX: $7,200
QF: $9,000
JL: $7,100
BA: $7,800

The new SC earn reflects the price you're willing to pay...

What QFF should have done is increased SC earn on QF for premium cabins only (making J/F disproportionally higher than 2x economy) and changed plat/plat1 qualification to 8 squiggles for non-US/non-EU FF customers.
Then they could leave the oneworld table alone; limit DSC offers/put a cap on bonus SC. This would make QF# premium cabins appealing for those driven by status/points and would justify the commanding premium Qantas charges.

All I see right now is QFF screwing premium QFi customers. And looking at the hard data - this group of cashed up customers is getting smaller for QF.

This sentence implies other changes are coming regarding points earning on partner airlines: "The way you earn Qantas Points on partner airline flights will transition to the same regional framework as the table above. Please ensure Your Profile is up to date so that we can keep you informed of these changes." http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/fairer-flying#partner-airlines
