Or maybe - make the booking using status FF number, and select seat. Change booking to non status FF number. Check in, rock up to lounge and say "can you please change my booking to my status FF number" - maybe they will then let you in based on status FF number, but the change won't stick so the points will still go to the non status account :p

Another thing to test for my experiment :p

Don't try this, unless you want to credit to your status account. Changes in the lounge, or the gate are actually very reliable. And when credited incorrectly, it is either impossible or a Pita to change.

Happened to me once - AA Plat on BP (QF WP on check in)

Received crediting from both !!!!

I don't suppose the lounge lady was a youngish blonde girl, say mid-to-late 20s? And the supervisor a - and I say this meaning no disrespect, purely to identify him - slightly odd looking man with gingerish hair, maybe late 30s? That was the duo that caused me to run afoul of the system.

The supervisor was indeed as you described, but there were two ladies guarding the lounge. The older lady (I'd say mid 30s to maybe low 40s) was the one who was having the "discussion" with the said traveller.

Kids, don't try this at home!

It is a shame your card with Oneworld status is not good enough to enter the lounges.

For those of us with b*gger all status, there may be a huge difference between QF & VA over seat selection and onboard service. Next week I am doing SYD-MEL in "J" on an award flight with QF, row 3. Will I get any service, well from what a number of people have said probably not. On the return flight MEL-SYD I am on VA "J" again on an award flight - but this time in Row 1. First time I will have compared them side-by-side in this way and it will be interesting.

Well SydneySwan, the QF/VA comparison turned out to be quite interesting. I know this is a QF thread, but have decided to respond here where my initial comments were published. As it turned out, it was an occasion when QF had to do recovery, and VA sailed through smoothly.

QF479 SYD-MEL. Advised around 5pm the the 6:45pm flight cancelled, Rebooked (se we thought) on QF465 at 7pm - no biggy. 5:10pm, second call, sorry the QF agent was too slow hitting the commit button, and someone else got the 7pm seats. Rebooked on to QF467 at 7:30pm.

Did bag drop about 5:30pm, go to J Lounge where we had a warm welcome and found a table for 2 in a very crowed lounge. Food was ok, as I tried the goulash which tasted better than it looked. Around 6pm, QF announced QF467 delayed because of incoming flight - now scheduled to board an hour late. Actually departed around 9pm, arrived MEL around 10:15. Not a spare seat on the plane, and there were others on the flight who had been bumped back, with lots of comments at the gate prior to boarding. We wondered how it would go, but the CSM took a very good tone and seemed to placate most people, and then did an excellent service to a full J cabin with everyone getting a good greeting but very business like to get through. The priority boarding was ok in terms of keeping pax not entitled out of the queue. But the Y pax started boarding at the same time the priority pax were called forward, and Mrs OATEK was nearly knocked over in the air bridge by an aggressive couple rushing to board.

I enjoyed the Ling fillet for dinner (lets call it supper), and felt that the crew had done a very good job. So overall, the rebooking was a real pain as we watched QF465 sail away pretty close to time, and from memory another MEL flight scheduled after us was long gone before us. But we got there and the onboard service was good. The aircraft seats looked a little tired, but everything that needed to work did work.

VA859 was the return booking, using AMEX points. Got to the airport and warm welcome by lounge staff. Realised we had only just dodged another cancelled flight, as the next MEL-SYD was not going to fly. Spent nearly 2 hours in the lounge as it turned out, and found it good, and rarely above about 2/3rds full. Had soup and toast, and felt it looked and felt a bit less chaotic than the QF lounge two nights earlier, but I am sure the VA lounge gets hectic too.

Boarding was announced on time, and the priority boarding was smooth. Only three in J, and about another 5 status pax, and we had our bags in the overhead by the time the first rush of remaining passengers arrived. Given the lack of J pax, we had very personal service from the CSM, constant use of our names, and replenishing of drinks (we were on the soft stuff I might add). We chose the cheese plat for afternoon tea and thought it was very good. The cabin seemed fresher than the QF flight, and the barrier between J and Y meant that the pax in the first row of Y didn't kick or grab your seat.

So overall, given both seats were award flights, found all the airport and flight staff were very good, and the flights and lounges quite comparable for comfort and food. I couldn't pick between them on this limited experience, as they were our first J domestic flights with either airline. Would be happy either way in the future, and it will probably depend on whether QF or AMEX points build up the quickest when booking my next award in J. Certainly don't see on the basis of these two flights that QF has a distinct edge though, when ignoring the service recovery issues and the half-empty J cabin on VA.

Now I'll say first that QF is my preferred airline (even though they don't allow me to fly with them as much as I'd like to, aka lack of Business-friendly SYD-CNS flights), though when I read this, the cynic in me thinks "yeah, more likely you were bumped by status pax, especially being on a reward fare", which can be both taken as good (for status pax) and bad (for other pax). Too often I've had QF agents spin a story (some may call this a lie) just to placate the customer with an explanation. Sometimes I've had more information at hand to call them out. I only hope that wasn't the situation for you.

With effectively no status (wife and I QF PS), at least one of us will always end up with soup or cheese in QF Row 3. Daughter in her four SYD - MEL weekend trips this year has taken the 7 early flights offered by VA. Not having to ever worry about JQ tips the balance over the slightly better QF lounges. VA express security checking at Sydney works a dream if only checking in luggage.
Having a QF points reserve does come in handy though as after sailing a 20m Adams up to Hamilton Island next week with my brother, J reward seats in VA all gone for the return flight and able to snag two on the Wednesday QF flight.

You could well be right, but as long as I flew Friday night I wasn't too concerned. Being PS on a classic award I never expected I would be at the top of their list to accommodate, but as I had early morning plans for Melbourne the next day it all worked out ok.

Is the old status credit table still available?

The 601 to 1200 band, flying American in First, did that earn 2.5 x the miles and 90 status credits?

I'm currently investigating this with the Loyalty team, and hope to have an update asap.

Any chance we might be able to get a response to this?

Thank you.

Strange. I had a 1201 to 2400 J flight credit as just 60 status credits - the new regime - but it's on the same PNR as the flight that credited correctly.

Looking at the old SC table: 10 zones, 4 classes. What could be simpler? Certainly not the new 'fairer and simpler' stuff… Yet another Qantas enhancement. Someone there must think we are either very stupid or illiterate and do not know the definitions of simple words like 'simpler'

Wash your mouth out - don't you have a copy of the QROED (Qantas Revised Oxford English Dictionary)?:evil::p.

I am getting more concerned.Have just booked our DONE4 for mid next year.Under the old system it would earn 1360 SCs.Now I thought 950 SCs.But checking on the new MMB it now has grouped our flights.
EG BNE-SYD-LAX-DFW-LGA is shown as flight 1 BNE-NYC.LAX-DFW-LGA are booked with the AA flight numbers so mrsdrron should earn 400 SCs.But if they treat it as 1 flight that will be 280 SCs.
With the other groupings they have made this will make the earn just 700 SCs and no way can mrsdrron maintain WP.And if that is the case then QF will not get any further revenue from us.Flying to the US or Europe will be via Asia and other OW airlines.Domestic flights will be VA.We will both credit to AA.
