Heads up about program changes

Todays SMH at the front of the business section has the headline "Qantas Frequent Flyer program gets the thumbs down for it's complexity".

True, and we all pointed it out to Red Roo. It points out there are many middle travellers between the top and bottom and they need to be looked after but making it messy will not make any message clear. which I guess is partly what they want.

"Simpler, fairer" is in reality "daunting complexity" to quote the SMH for non high level FFs.

and do 'high level' frequent flyers really care? All they need do is call the premium line (no wait) and request an award seat or upgrade to be released for them and their family. None of this hours of searching like some of us at the bottom.

The "daunting complexity" was actually from a review of the changes by Ideaworks which the article was citing.

The changes are "simpler" in that it's made it simpler for me to focus on earning points in other programs.

As well they should for the considerable loyalty we show in spite of how QF treats us. I feel however even for many WP and above, QF have stretched the friendship a little too far with this simpler and fairer BS. Most are looking elsewhere.

I would like to see the word "loyalty" dropped/removed/erased from any comments regarding the QFF "scheme" including their website.

Definition of loyalty; 1) the state of being loyal 2) a feeling or application of loyalty. Whereas definition of "scheme" much better fits; 1) a systematic plan or arrangement for work or action, etc, 2) an artful or deceitful plot.

Scheme fits far better!!!!

You forgot to check the Qantas English Dictionary which I'm sure has a very different definition of that word!

There would be mutliple defintions each refering slightly to each other twisting and written in legalspeak just to make it clear (as mud (not in QF dictionary)). Defintion would depend on if you were using points or cash, which class, when, who, what, where..... And can always be retracted!

That would be an enhancement I assume?

If this new iteration of the FF programme is meant to be fairer, why don't we earn for all redemptions, including upgrades since we are, in effect, purchasing the seat or upgrade ( as opposed to an op up). Surely this would be fairer?

It's not "fairer", it's "Fairer™" which in the QED is defined as "something likely to increase Qantas revenues at the expense of their most loyal customers."

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."

They are slowly doing this anyway. Qantas frequent flyer points are now called Qantas points, as they care less and less about our flying loyalty and more about our wallets, both figuratively and literally.

You won't find much about loyalty on the latest propaganda.

As I sit here as a WP in the "Qantas Lounge" amalgamated thing in HK awaiting my last flight in QF F from Hong Kong (also enhanced to business from October) you do wonder why you show loyalty. Then I totter across to CX F lounge to a cabana and think, gee, if only I could fly these guys with a business product that rivals QF F, and still earn some decent SCs, one considers switching their "loyalty" entirely.

As they say, it was good while it lasted. What will be left of QF in years to come remains to be seen, but with the current attitudes it doesn't look too rosy from where I'm sitting. Neither does the QF HK QP buffet trough, for that matter. What happened to Neil Perry dishes served with table service? Champagne that is actually Champagne? Service differentiation for F/WP? All gone or never were.

(Goes off to find an MPC & Asia Miles desk) ;)

Sad news is that even the help line people have to "tow the spin"! Just called the Pt help desk inquiring about the destruction of the points with MH from LHR > KUL > MEL and its like talking to a politician! Had to finally say "its a yes or no answer"! Sad and i do feel very sorry for them. You can just feel the passion and support for QF draining away.......

So qantas early bird sale also comes with double points.

So we slash the points earning. But then roll out, what, at least 3 double points offers including the aquire double points offer.

Sounds like worrying that the qantas club is over crowded and then giving out discount memberships. Or worrying about cheap status and then handing out double status credits.
