Heads up about program changes

Removing online MASA's broke my addiction to chasing QF status which was stupid anyway burning more points for the same seat and being in the same lounge regardless of status.
I might fly only on points but they are often used to buy seats outright so that the family always travels together and at times that suit our needs.
The majority of my QF points pool were redeemed in QStore over the past six months.

That all makes my choices easier- time to give QF the go. And the above is exactly what I see is in the making- QF will exit OneWorld, it's just a matter of time and another reason not to keep chasing Lifetime Gold anymore and rather hope across to another member!

I predicted QF would announce their exiting OW in the Feb 27 announcement; that didn't happen but this looks ominously like the first step.

I have already earned WP six months into my membership year and - with so much doubt over QF - had decided my remaining spend would go toward building VA status as opposed to building lifetime credits.

I had started to feel a little guilty at abandoning my "true love"...now I'm so pleased I'd let my head rule my heart.

Mr Joyce, you've finally killed all loyalty I felt toward QFF.

Regards,

BD

Wow...its pretty confusing not making it simpler is the first observation.

As a loyal QF customer for a number of years, the reason i still fly with them both domestically and internationally was the points earn-rate and the nationalism around the airline. I flight to HKG quite a bit and since you have cut it down to a single flight- I have still stuck with you guys instead of choosing a more convenient schedule with CX (4 flights a day to HKG!) because of the earn rate....with the new changes- i think i will switch to CX with better cabin and service.

Domestically I will definitely status match now to VA, as you have "enhanced" the service so much that the gap is really non-existent.

Such a shame, how management has turned a once strong brand and only few airline that was non-junk into a feeder airline for a global player.

Ciao and Adios

Personally I have never used a points and pay, and reach WP through personally paid weekly discount Y and a work paid DONE4 each year.

from what I can see of the changes this will help me achieve WP each year (or are they going to change the qualification level)
and weekly J lounge and RTW F access is really what I am after (plus seat selection)

or am I missing something (yes I will lose 400 points a week)

Yes, not everyone is worse off and you can count on the bean counters at QF working this out some time ago.

Damn this really annoys me, on first glance of that huge new table the rest of my October status run won't get me near what I am after.
I'll have to sit down and calculate what the flights I'm yet to book will come in at and see if it's even worth it

Points spending tonight! Not a good sign for QFF. They told us all that MASA's werent going anywhere!! Here to stay they said.

Lets just hope QFF dont do any more silly things to make frequent flyers unhappy.

There will be no carbon tax in any government I lead !!!!

Solid F minus.

I'm burning all my points and bailing from QFF.

No plans to join any other program. I hate Virgin just as much. I reckon I'm done with the loyalty thing for now.

What is annoying is the spin on these announcements. We all know Qantas are in the soft and slushy financially. They wouldn't be changing the program unless it was to cut their costs and liabilities. Of core they have worked out that increasing points for flexible business travellers will be far outweighed by the saving from non flex fares. Do they think we are all stupid???

The Status Run Spreedshet is getting a workout.....will really need some updating after 1 july

Actually, I take my prior post back - there is a caveat:

Note: New earn rates apply for Qantas & Jetstar Airlines from 1 July 2014.
Sadly the link goes back to a 404 error web page ...

Maybe they will not.

Red Roo - Direct Question. "Will Any Seat Awards for travel in P, X, Z or U classes booked and ticketed from March 29th until June 30th 2014 earn points and Status credits as per the rates listed in this page: Frequent Flyer - Fairer Flying for First, Discount Economy, Premium Economy and Business respectively - even though those classes are not listed on that page."

Sure, a mere drop in the ocean for someone who declares they have over a million points (and counting) which they probably will find hard to use.
Didn't my next sentence mention the drop in points earn is significant.

And yes I have close to 1.2 million points which I will find very difficult to use but I will try. First off if Qantas is still around in June 2015 would be a Oneworld award for 2 people starting from BKK going to Europe, USA, quickly touching Australia and back to BKK. That should cost ~280,000 QFF points. And I may just book myself in business class with her in economy as she would rather I was comfortable for a trip of that length. And I am hoping some Pointsbreaks are available for that trip as well. I may even be allowed to play some golf. ;)

High status customers on cheap tickets will be the biggest losers. They're probably the most expensive customers QF has, and QF appears to be "firing" those customers. A marginal business probably doesn't want a bunch of loss-making customers hanging around.

Those that value their status will have to pony up more money. Those that value their money will go burden VA with their loss-inducing behaviour.

+ 1

Good luck with your plans .

You might like to consider the $3000+ that Qantas are likely to sting you in conjunction with the redeeming of those 280K points ...

Wow. Finally Caught up with the posts. A thrilling two hours' reading.

Interesting to see how the MASAs conclude; 30 SCs short of SG with Qualifying Year ending in October... was fancying a quick trip on these points lying around.
